Tomorrow the world of LD as we know it is ripped to shreds.
Everyone get ready.
As much as I love that there will be change, I don't believe it to be game changing.
The update video on SK youtube channel made them both appear less impressive as I believed them to be..
Annoying for 3 days, after that everything will be back to normal.
It looks like the developers have truly bashed lockdown as we know it to oblivion... dashing away all of that accumulated skill. Hopefully it won't be as bad as when they ripped it to shards last year.
Not true Fehzor, Dash raises the skill ceiling. Now the game is resembling SSBM, if anything.
Guardians can guard themselves better and recons become harder to kill because their new shield defense.
Guardian is a scrub dunking machine with dash. Not even gonna lie I will have a "scrubs dunked"-counter on my screen to take note of how many scrubs I've dunked on with dash + gf combo.
I'm assuming (and someone could help me with this by making my understanding a bit better) that the "dash" is similar to the hammer dash but without the damage. If this is the case, my practice over the last few weeks has been successful. I think that the change to the metagame will be significant but only the smartest will prevail!
It's more like a "hop"--slightly longer than the dash and the invincibility frames are apparent at the beginning but not at the end. So its a technique that can avoid damage but can also be punished if your opponent knows where you are going to land. It's a great tradeoff so it's not too overpowered.
As a competitive Smasher who has gotten Top 8 at a few Nationals over the past 6 years (APEX and Genesis to name a few), I can tell you that this game isn't even remotely close to resembling Melee, gameplay-wise and skill-wise. If you're a casual player and not a tourney-goer, I'll forgive you. If you play this game for competition, please go right now.
OMG neo, just had a melee smashfest for my birthday last weekend. Sure miss the tournament scene, was hella fun.
On topic, haven't even researched the new stuff... will absorb it when it hits the field. Can't wait to find indirect ways to use it. Sounds fun though.
Stop taking yourself so seriously potantial. Melee is probably the best fighting game ever made in my eyes. For SK... with latency and lag on top of being an anti-social internet game floating in a sea of unaccountability, it can't compare with melee. It is a very competative game either way. If you cant see that, please go right now.
I just got worked up cuz Melee is my main game and for it to be compared to Spiral Knights is kind of a joke. This much we're both clear on tho so I'll drop it.
As far as the competitiveness of this game goes, I'm not sure I can agree that it's "very competitive." It's hard for a game like this, where PvP offers zero rewards, to be legitimately competitive and fierce. I come from the Fighting Game Community (FGC) though so my opinion stems from a decade of tournament experience from a multitude of different fighting games. If there is no reward, it's hard for anything to be very competitive because ultimately, you're fighting for nothing, and if you're fighting for nothing, you tend to not exert 100% effort. That's just my two cents on the subject though.
And for the record, I do enjoy this game, I'm just keeping it real.
Apologies in advance for derailing the thread.
EDIT: Happy Birthday, Blueflood :)
How and where did you get you information? If this is true, that the release is in fact today, then awesome! If not then congrats another attemp to spoil people. And worst of all this spoiling trend is going on youtube and steam now, people are uploading videos and pictures days, even months before any official announcement.
[EDIT] I am sorry if anyone thinks I am "whining". I was just raising a question followed by my view on this topic.
SK trend to receive ('big') updates on Wednesdays, if any at all.
I'm comparing it to SSBM because of all the damn mindgames. I stopped playing melee competitively when I turned 13 because Halo 2 was just plain bigger. When dash comes out you'll see what I mean =/ (maybe not all the time because most of LD is pretty scrubby)
Glad to know I'm not the only one who loves melee, sadly I have no one to match my skill and play with me, so I found a hack for brawl that allows you to play brawl like melee (e.g Shuffling/Wave dashing) but enough about that.
I've seen the dash/bash, And I can tell you I'm not very impressed, Yes it will give guardians a buff and more defense, but why not just buff the guardian shield instead of implementing a new battle tactic? Maybe give it MSI medium? Same goes for recon shield, it's multiple in-take was necessary, but it lacks speed. Sure the dash/bash are cool, but will they really be useful?
just my two cents.
Guardian with ASI medium are you crazy? Just give them passive damage resistance and we'll call it a day. Not that Guardian needs a buff though. Dash will be something you need to experience firsthand to really get an understanding of what can be done.
Guardian doesnt need a buff.. but recon doesnt either x_x
@Dragonicblaze please, tell me how long you've played SK and then how long you've played lockdown, then tell me how much of guardian and recon you play, them tell me how hard it is to kill them.
Good. May something better lie in its horrid place.
