Fun fact: Although toothpicks are a ton faster than heavy swords of the same star quality, they
do nearly the same ammount of damage.

That, right there, is a problem in and of itself. Although toothpicks do pure piercing damage, they
do just about as much piercing damage as heavys swords of the same rank, but swing about 4x faster.
My solution?

Heavy swords:

Make them swing 10% slower. However, the swing CAN NOT be interrupted, only dodged.
Give them a 15% damage boost, as well. Give the initial smash from the charge attack, as well
as the afterblast, a chance to stun (or freeze), since the chance is already fairly small.
They should give a small movement speed penalty to the wearer.

Toothpicks:

They should swing 20% faster, and move the user around a bit more. However, the
knockbacks hould be nerfed, as well as the overal damage. Maybe 35% less damage.
That should do the trick.

toothpick:

swing faster? more than it is already?
oh, come on

is already weird the first strike being arc-wide (usually fit with sword with sharp side), instead of thrust-like
even more being pure specialized, instead of normal-specialized type

heavy swords:

movement penalty? all heavy swords already have movement penalty... while charging
if i got one heavy (gran faust), one "normal" (voltedge) and one fast sword (BTB), i will become slower just because i'm wielding one heavy? =_=

A flourish killing beasts isn't overpowered at all when you compare it to a Combuster frying undeads.

The only nerf toothpicks need is a change to normal-piercing and a reduction on the width of the attack.

I wouldn't see a change to split normal/piercing as much of a nerf. They'd be usable against slime and construct enemies while remaining roughly as powerful against what they are effective against, I believe. It'd be a nerf for them in LD, most certainly. I just think a bit of a general damage nerf would be nice, not to mention nerfing the first strike. It's a swipe! That's not how you use one of those swords!

That's what I meant by a reduction of the width of the attack. It's way too good to be true.
