Answer at this post.

I'm trying to shardbomb this guy and he's not being very cooperative about it at all. So far, my strategy goes like this:

Phase 1: Circle around him and plant a bunch of bombs. Easy.
Phase 2: Plant two bombs and be good at watering.
Phase 3: Kill the zombies, get some distance, lay shards and bait dashes to triple-shard. Assuming invincitinks don't bug out, this works.
Phase 4: Plant two bombs and be the best waterboy that ever watered. Dodge bullets like it's a japanese shmup.

Phase 5: I... I don't know.

I would bait dashes, but I can't get him to consistently dash. The only times I manage to hurt him is when he tries to walk into melee range to mace me but I can't get him to consistently do that either. He seems to prefer hanging around in the middle of the room and just mace or firesnake, and from that position it's very hard to hit him with shards at all.

It's not that it's hard. If I just waltzed around the room and laid shards, he'd eventually die, but a 30-minute video with 20 minutes of just skirting around in phase 5 is not very interesting. I need to find a method where I can consistently double or preferably triple shard him. Any of you guys have any ideas on how to make him consistently keep walking or dashing? Any other tips or ideas?

Use an ionized salt on the guards then lure them to charge thru vana and pass on the shock?
lol, I'd pay to see that.

I thought to get him to dash, you gotta stand outside his mace engagement range, but inside his dash range. Once he's in the middle of the level, it's tricky to get him to dash because he's got mace coverage of pretty much the entire room.

@Hexzyle
That works for phase 3. For phase 5 he just does the fire snakes like a jerk.

@Little-Juances
While that sounds hilarious, I was hoping for something that was a bit faster than using Voltaic Tempest.

Bring Freeze vials to the fight.

Then use those vials to freeze Vanaduke, then you plant your shards.

You can carry 0* and 4* freeze vials if you want to freeze Vanaduke more.

@Usevnsevnsixfivfor
I don't see what freeze vials are going to help.

@Misten
Yeah, watering him a bunch is probably my best best. I'll give it a shot.

Random note from the stat bomber:

Based on multiple somewhat consistent attempts at haze bombing him, for some reason status clouds make him want to dash nearly ALL THE TIME. I know it doesn't help anything with "shard only" fights, but it's something worth noting that I watched happen quite often, and might as well be the only reason I've yet to do it without dying. Really, no matter where I go or how far away I am, for some reason standing in that cloud just makes him want to dash at me, not entirely sure why myself.

That is interesting. Perhaps I should be using Sun Shards rather than Splinter Bomb?

Qwote figured it out: If you slowly walk away from him in an outwards spiral, he'll mostly walk after you or dash, both of which are beneficial behaviours when you leave a breadcrumb trail of shard bombs after you.

I tested it today and it worked like a charm. Video to come.
