I have been having a problem with my sk game play every minute or so everything (enemies and players) walks of the map. I was wondering if it was just my desktop not having a dedicated graphics card or my internet connection. When i switch to my laptop (which was stolen yesterday) I don't have this problem at all.

My desktop spec :
windows 7 (64 bit)
16 gigs of ram
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000

My internet test:

You have 16gb of ram & Intel HD card AND your lagging?
Yea, i noticed too. I think we all noticed it. I blame the GUI.

@canine
Intel HD card comes with all computers that use a intel processor. Intel HD card is ok for normal use, but terrible for gaming. however since this is a java game, the graphics card shouldn't matter too much. It's mostly CPU power here.

@top-sniper
Just gonna ramble some questions.
What CPU do you have? Just curious.
Have you installed all the proper graphics drivers?
How about network drivers?
Are you using steam?
If it's not network related, then try tweaking the game.

Most likely your connection.

Most likely your connection. Check your set-up. I'm playing from NZ and my graphics are mostly smooth when it's not busy, save for high latency due to the distance.

Bad opmitized game is bad

Simple.

I HAVE to play with low graphics to get "smoothness"

I usually play AAA games with full res, ultra graphics.. and this game runs like crap.

You should go at Thrillaus performance thread, that may help you a little (Find it yourself, I'm too lazy)

.

This has nothing to do with your computer specs. This is because of your connection, you have a good enough computer to run this game. You said that there are enemies walking off the map. It's because the servers are not connected to your device so there's nothing to refresh the activity on the screen.

When you go to your laptop I'm assuming you're closer to your router or just have a straight ethernet cord into your laptop. If anything, you should put in a couple dollars to upgrade your internet, because you're a state away from the SK servers and should be getting 4-bars all day.

My internet is in the top 3 percentile in the nation, so I don't have this problem, but I have seen it happen at friends houses and it's purely because of your weak connection to the internet.

@snarkey i actually go farther away when im on my laptop, and i always get max connection but for some reason when i play 1 of 2 things might happen
1 everything freezes i can move around and attack but it does not register it and puts me back to the spot i was a few seconds ago
2 everything still moves but walks off the map ( i personaly dont walk off it but enemys and players)
i posted my speed test earlier thats about the same speed 24/7 and is there any way to improve my "weak connection"

Your computer specs are insane. I'm just wondering, why you didn't buy a graphics card. remember, a computer can only run as fast as the slowest part of it. which in this case will be your intel HD card and your HDD (I use SSD's)
If that's the case, its either your provider (which may be coincidental when you go on your laptop) or you have not installed the proper network drivers.

a thought

Click on the windows icon on the toolbar, and type cmd in the search bar that comes up at the bottom of the program list. Copy, paste, and enter this:

ping -t www.google.com

Let that run for at least minute or two, then hit enter again to stop it. Look for what it says your packet loss percentage is, over 5% and you start having big issues with games like this. This could be because of your router firmware, ethernet cord having flaws or (though I severely doubt it) losing data due to electromagnetic interference (usually happens around large generators and such, not households), or your computer's drivers, especially for the network hub.

In order to check your system drivers, follow the instructions here: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-keep-your-drivers-updated-i...

For your router firmware you will need to find out the router's manufacturer and read this: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wifihomenetworking/qt/firmwareupgrade...

Packet loss can be one cause. Another, which would be totally out of your control, is connection. You have a good internet speed, but higher speed does not directly correlate to better connection, that is a common misconception. The connection depends on your ping and the servers you go through to reach OOO's. If your data's path has a crappy edge (aka segment) then no matter what happens there will be issues.

Just thoughts, idk if that will help at all.

nope.
It's very unlikely it's because of your computer, but try thrillhaus' tweaks for the game. using a parallel garbage collector really helped smooth out my game as well as allocating more memory to the game.
Maybe it's your router, but I don't know.
