So I realize that the Valkyrie Wings Promotion was a while ago, and there are few unbound Valkyrie Wings still in circulation.
And you know what?
That makes me really sad.
It has been my dream to make a set using a pair of Cool Valkyrie Wings, but I have not been able to find a SINGLE PAIR for sale by anyone. As far as I'm concerned, they no longer exist.
Therefore, I humbly request a way to obtain Valkyrie Wings without trading with people who got them during the event. It would really make my entire gameplay life in Spiral Knights.

Thank you for your time,
Dfliyerz

Actually, there were quite a few pairs in the AH yesterday ^^ I doubt OOO will re-do the Valkyrie Wings Promotion, or any other promotion :/ Just not their type of thing :P

papaya couldn't be more wrong. Spiral Knights have been redoing promo's left and right, even slipping old promo items into new promos that are seemingly unrelated. (they had dragon wings promo, then some time later did the heaven/hell promo and threw divine valk wings and volcanic dragon wings into the promo). They redid the winter items during the winter solstice / xmas event. They will surely re-do the summer items in a summer solstice/july 4th type event (at least time-frame wise). They redid the party items during the 2nd anniversary event.

It stands to reason we will see more hallow stuff next halloween and that we will see the love stuff for a 3rd time coming next valentines day. Soooo, yeah. Promo's are being rehashed all over the place.

With all that being said, the valkrye wings do not have a set holiday, event, or time-frame that would lend to a logical relaunch. Also, OOO should not, and will not, promo them again because one player wants them more than life itself. If you haven't found a pair its because you haven't been looking hard enough or you are not willing to spend the requisite currency for them. I too have seen them cycle through the auction house with surprising regularity for a "rare" accessory. When rare accessories are hard to attain the answer isn't to make them less rare. There are so few things on this game that remain rare, every time that rarity is diluted the game loses a little bit of its luster.

--I say all this despite there being rare stuff that i still want and cannot find. Stuff that would cost a ton. I want prism parrying blade like no other. I'd like a prism tenna's, prism com unit too. These are so far and few between and cost so much when they come around. I may never get these items. I'd rather that i never get them than that they become common place. I wish the quicksilver helm was still the rarest helm on the game. I wish Kat hats would have been a rare drop. I wish there were more Darkfang Shield type items on the game. But alas, they don't care what i wish for any more than they care what you wish. And others would disagree with me, just as i disagree with you.

I concur. Forcing variety through lack of easy attainability is a great thing in games. It feeds that desire in people.

I think that a wing redux iswarranted.

Cause, bluntly speaking, if you haven't sold your stockpile by now, or at least a good portion of it, you aren't gonna sell it.

something about too damn high

Not to mention those hoarding it are charging through the roof. People don't want to be shot in the foot when the next promo comes out.

This.

I got some Toasty valk wings cheap and wanted to see if it'll sell and someone (who I blocked due to him being obnoxious) wanted to buy it off for 150k cr because he bidded once on some Toasty valk wings at 150k cr

You don't need to be a genius to understand he won't get any valk wings soon -_-

I'm sorry but

15k -25k CE as "requisite currency" for wings (including volcanic) is just ludicrous.

Tossing some wing flavors out as part of a promo like they did with love aura would be a good warning to those trying to overcharge. At the moment they cannot lose anything by charging whatever price they want. I think having to settle for less would be a good resolution to that.

I'd understand charging whatever you want if the event was very special and only saw prizes given out to a few, but come on. You got a stockpile of various wing flavors for simply existing on the server for a two week period; is it too much to ask to not charge an arm and a leg for them?

my 2 cents

@ heavy rare stuff are rare because they are hard to obtain or unattainable anymore.

I personally like to think I have items that nobody can get in-game, they have to trade someone who has it to get it.

It add a depth to the market economy which is not a bad thing.

Having the same promos again

-1

Having 0.000001% to loot shadow valk wings in iron lockboxes? sure why not, it allows a certain amount of wings to be in the game and stay in the game while the population *may* leave and it won't flood the market or drop the price from it too much

A lot of MMORPG and RPG has those little odds, Diablo II had thousands of item that had 0.000005% to drop (zod, pbotd, gg blue items, gg crafted items such as +3 skiller amy, LL rings and whatnot) and they were plenty on the server flowing in, even before D2JSP came to life

SK need something like this to constantly implement items that cannot be created in-game

I'd say if there was another way for anyone to obtain Valkyrie wings, no one would use them since they'd be too mainstream.

Now now, I'm not saying:

Redo the entire promo.

It might be beneficial to include (some, not all) older items as -part- of another promo. Like the love aura being introduced with the forever love puppy mask, or the crown / crest of winter reemerging with frosty sets.

The rates were still incredibly low (not in love aura's case), but their presence allowed a dip in pricing to a rate that was reasonable.

Also, I'd like to note that rarity does not necessarily mean exclusive to a specific group. The items were marketed as limited, not exclusive; and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not think that any promotion so far has advertised any promo item as "one time only."

Realization

Three Rings does have the option to re-release any promotions of which they had not officially deemed "One-Time Only". However, that does not bring them any sort of obligation toward taking this potential alternative choice. In consideration of this, it's rather likely that they won't re-release a promotion without either advocate or justifiable reasoning. It is quite unlikely that they would simply release content or events on a whim; primarily due to Three Rings being part of the SEGA Family. They care; however, it becomes rather complex when they need to take into consideration both long-term, casual, serious, and new players alongside these consistent changes in mechanics and content.

Best of luck finding a seller to purchase Cool Valkyrie Wings from at a reasonable price. It's not impossible; just requires a certain level of effort.

As for every other player that had responded; those intricate perspectives prove rather interesting. ^^

Raptor-Zy applauds everyone's efforts.

Haves vs Have nots.

No one is saying that they should remain the exclusive content of those who were around for the first promo. But to claim that they should redo the promo because "I want them. They are too expensive," is as self-centered as it is narrow minded.

To ask collectors to philanthropically sell them for less than they are worth is also absurd. You might as well go to walmart and declare they should sell products for far under market value and then accuse them of hoarding perishables and non-perishables. You also fail to take into account the risk one assumes in investing (be it in real life, or in promo items on this game), you fail to take into consideration the time value of money (if i spend 1m crowns on an item to HOPEFULLY resell for 2m in a year from now....thats an entire year that i've had 1m crowns tied up in an item. For that entire duration i am accepting the risk that the market will be flooded with this item and i'll lose crowns on it. if that happens, none of you are sending charity to the investor to make up for their loss).

Next up, the hoarder fallacy. The have-nots erroneously assume that they have been frozen out of these items compliments of hoarders and merchants. That we have purchased and squirreled away wings (or other items) that otherwise would have been yours. NO! We are the reason you can have these nice things well after they were released. Granted, they come at a premium. But if no one held these to sell for later then they'd have all been consumed now by end users and you'd have none on the open market. Costumes would be unattainable entirely, even if you had 1m CE, and accessories would cost just as much if not more, and you could only get them pre-bound, losing the ability to put them on you want. (enjoy paying full price + an unbinding fee).

So for those of you who want rare stuff that was issued ages ago, you should be creating thank you threads to these "evil hoarders."

Lastly,
I am all for these items being freely (or nearly freely) attainable in game. I'd love to see ALL costume pieces, even G1 rose regalia all be added to the random drop tables with appropriate (very low) % chances. I'd like to see all accessories be attainable (again with appropriately low percentages) through lockboxes. Yes, you should have a chance at getting shadow dragon wings, or cool valk wings in a lockbox, not a chance worth gunning for one, but enough so that SOMEONE SOMETIME will unbox one, and it could be you.

They should add old promo boxes (storm, winter, heaven/hell, frosty, hallow, surge, etc...) as rare items on the end of level wheel.--put UV tickets on there too, while you are at it, OOO.

There are so many easy way to keep rare items rare while making them still current. But to simply redo a promo, or throw old promo items into current promos, or to cry about those of us who facilitate the only source of old items and erroneously think we are the cause of them not being here *facepalm*, or to decree taht we should sell them for less and tehy aren't worth what we charge on them....its all rubbish.

Its as ridiculous as claiming that OOO is price gouging on featured auctions. Don't blame us merchants, blame yourselves, the consumers who compete against one another, you are the ones that set the price, not us.

btw

sorry if that was a bit aggressive, but i tire of the constant vilification of merchants, as well as characterizing them as hoarders, since hoarding is (at least arguably) a psychological disorder.

In truth, merchants are a public good. I pay people a price that they are happy to accept for whatever I buy and I sell people things for a price they are happy to pay for whatever I am selling. So every item a flip creates 2 happy transactions. Three happy customers, two happy transactions, and one item that finds a happy home. Its win, win, win.

**merchants who swindle the uninformed out of precious gear...thats another story, i grant you.

Still, I know of merchants

Still, I know of merchants who will purposefully buy out all the featured and hoard it for a year. There's a core group of merchants who basically camp the AH every day and raise prices on featured, and then do what de beers diamond co does and artificially reduce supply. I'm not gonna bid war, they all can hoard these items that will never get used while they hope someone will pay the 10x markup they place on it. They can toot their own horn, I'm not gonna be a part of their demand system.

@ grant

i'm against that, as i am also against the buying and reselling of featured coral/violet rose regalia. I've even asked the dev's to make featured items come "soul-bound," to fix this (imo) abusive mechanic. They had no interest in that, and replied as much.

But as far as "rare promo items," my previous statements speak for themselves :)

@ Unique

Point taken, aggressive or not it's reasonable, and I'll concede on that point.

I think it would be a bit... daft of me to generalize all recipients of older promo participants in the category that I stated previously. I was -attempting- to address Grant's group, but I did it a bit roughly it seems.

I'm all for rares being expensive. I'm all for purchasing them from people that were here before me. I just can't help but be disgruntled, though, at the fact that it sometimes gets to the point where markup almost doubles the normal going rate for certain accessories.

^Completely agree with you.

I didn't realize the Quicksilver Helm was once a rare helmet. Must have been before my time.

before the roarmulus twins it was a super super rare drop only (silver jelly mail too, but thats sorta ugly, lol). It was rumored to only be dropped from T3 quicksilvers (or whatever you call the electric T3 slimes). This was at a time before those things got nerfed. Those things were probably the toughest enemies this game has or had ever seen before being nerfed. Maybe just the toughest mob? Idk, never played the early iterations of Vana. Guess i should say that they were the toughest thing i have ever encountered since i started playing SK.

Motorcat was the only person i had ever seen with one (had the full set) up until they added the T2 boss and his token items. It was impossible to run by him and not stop, inspect, and stare. He'd always have a crowd around him. It was epic!
