Anybody want to discuss improvements about shield bash and dashing?

I, for one, toyed around with Dash a bit in FSC. In my POV, I wouldn't use it unless I'm avoiding a trap or Vana's attack, since there seems to be a bit of lag time in between dashing and attacking.

However, the shield bash is pretty useful for striker line's charge interruption. Additionally, I also found out bashing while holding the attack button can directly go to charge, which is a more offensive alternative compared to the shield-to-charge.

But, can they be improved?

Whoops.

Got it the other way around.

Dash cancels first swing to charge.

Bash has no lag, but can't cancel first swing.

There is a brief moment of

There is a brief moment of animation before and after the actual dash itself. This would account for you feeling there's a pause. First you rev up to dash, and then you settle down from dashing. As a side note, these moments of animation also cause dash to be about walking speed on the whole. You jump gaps faster, but someone walking would get there in the same amount of time. Well, the dasher would be a character length ahead, but that's not noteworthy.
