So I haven't logged on to the game in about exactly since they killed the icons
I'd title my threads appropriately, but then people would know what they were about when they clicked on them.
Same goes for placing them in the proper forum section. Who doesn't love opening threads in arsenal and receiving the fabulous opportunity to buy something? It certainly beats "Which brandish should I use to shave my legs with?"
You don't grab your finger paints and start making changes at an art gallery so why would you mess around with SK's game files?
The game as a whole is a work of art, Dev's have put a lot of work into creating it the way they believe is best for the majority. I completely agree with you protesting changes you dislike, but to take it upon yourself to mess with game files, or any work for that matter, that is not your own creation without the permission of the creator... Well like I said, not cool.
@Dbltap
Please read the Opening Post before commenting.
"So go away because this thread doesn't require you to hate on my artistic tastes"
...which are notably bad.
So yeah, I do have bad taste and am entirely wrong here, which is why . I'm just trying to find some people to be wrong with me, because I'd rather not mess up the game for people like you. Kind of like how I buy cheap printed out posters from art galleries when I want to finger paint on something. Have a nice day.I'M NOT PROTESTING THIS
I feel bad for the wiki editors.
They got alot of work ahead of them.
---
I want option to switch back, the icons look way better than the thumbnails.
Also not sure if the devs are aware of this, but "hi-res" texture WILL bump up system requirements, as older cards will get texture cache misses on large textures.
i know how you feel :/
but sadly they dont going to do something about it (and with that i mean they dont going to roll back the old icons and UI)
sure the new icons look fancy and nice but honestly i have troubles to tell what item i dropped since some of them look alike (for example swordstone and rocket sprocket) sure when you look at them on the inventory you can see them different but when they drop in a game level its hard to tell which item you dropped. maybe they can polish a bit the items icon? that would be useful.
anyway... im trying to get used to the new icons...
I read your opening post.
I'm not hating on or judging your artistic tastes.
What I am "hating on" is you attempting to recruit people to edit game files.
Protesting > Complain or object publicly: to express strong opposition to or disapproval of something in the form of a public demonstration or other action.
So yeah, you are protesting.
Apart from you being jerk, this thread has actually brought about an interesting point/suggestion provided by Grantgalitz.
@Grantgalitz
+1
EDIT:
You're to your.... Derp
Good luck Fehzor. I was trying to make something similar when those ugly UI and vial icons replaced the slick ones I paid for*. Sadly it wasn't that easy because of colouring - all vials used the same icon with different colouring. Because colouring scheme was changed with the introduction of new icons, the original ones looked awkward (especially stun and fire). I guess it will be similar for gear, where many items used to share icons as well.
As for the UI, I lowered the saturation of all elements and it helped a bit, but sadly the overall design was still crappy and too awkward for me to play so eventually I was forced to stop playing SK entirely. That said I miss SK a lot, because I haven't found a MMO that suits me as much as SK used to, so I'm supporting your efforts in restoring SK quality from my whole heart.
Oh, and by the way, if you like original icons more then new ones, that means your artistic taste is good.
* Yes, buying a game means I pay for UI and overall visual quality and style. Many games I've been purchasing recently were the ones with distinguish, unique art - often, the art was main reason for make a purchase at all. I'm thinking about games like "Tiny and big: grandpa's leftovers" or "Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine". Check UI of "XCOM: enemy unknown", one of the best game published recently. Icons are really well-done - solid, flat colours; elegant, simple and readable icons. This is how SK's UI used to look like. Why couldn't it stay that way?
Actually, Fehzor, I AM doing just that. Check out the "Retro UI?" thread in the suggestions forums. While icons aren't the main focus of that mod at the moment, they will be in the near future. Right now I'm experimenting with the Proto Sword and figuring out how to get this working.
They really should just allow players to mod some of the UI files so we don't have to stare at the terrible design flaws for the rest of our lifes. Or until you quit since they have a suck it up and deal with it policy. There is a lot of things people could do to make the game more enjoyable for others. I use to play a game that allowed their players to do this. A lot of cool things showed up. Eventually the owners even started making contest for their players to create a new color scheme on armors, weapons trails, etc.
I feel you on the changes to the UI and now the icons, Fehz. I don't like the change much either, but it's at least not as ugly to look at right now as it was before. They unified it all under their new shiny look. Didn't fix half of the problems we brought up in that 650 post April 3rd thread, but at least they're working on it...?
Now that I think about it, I wonder why they didn't just wait for all the assets to be done for the new UI before shipping it? A good portion of the firestorm that ensued when they released the UI update was that it was broken and things didn't mesh. Nearly two months later and now everything looks fine. Not the same as the old one, but fine at least. Why couldn't they wait for it all to be done? Why ship a broken incomplete product? Why pull an EA?
Anyways, I still feel hurt that they judged fixing up the old UI and icons as too much trouble or dated or whatever the hell made them scrap it. I really liked the old UI. It worked because it was so simple and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. I have never heard a single complaint aimed at the look of the old UI and for good reason. Everything just worked together.
..they're just icons. It doesn't effect gameplay in any way.
You're worse then people who spend millions on accessories ._.
But props for not just whining about it and actually trying to do something about it, even if it is against the ToS.
I read you're opening post.
have the english teachers of the world given up?
Ok seriously, all I want is to find some people that are wanting to have some fun and get back the old icons+possibly make the new UI look more like the old one with me so that I can continue on with whatnot. If I can't do that, I'll just find a new game and play that, because the aesthetic of the game was most of the reason I came here to play it.
So why am I getting these "You're worse than the worst and are the scum of the earth! Even worse than people that purchase accessories!" type comments? I specifically asked you not to send them to me.
@Dbltap
Ok fine I can be protesting, you win. But I'm not asking that the developers change the game in any way, shape, form, or fashion. In fact, I don't even want them to change the UI back. The devs worked hard on it, and I'm probably just artistically blind. But what I am saying, is that I, personally, don't like to look at it, and would like to go way out of my way to fix MY UI, not YOUR UI, but just mine, to a state that resembles the old UI. No, I cannot move things about, yes, I might be able to pallet swap it and add in the old icons for the weapons/whatnot. Will it make me better at the game, or give me any sort of inherent advantage? No.
And seriously, it will probably take all of an afternoon, if I get someone to assist me in creating the resource files- from those already left in the game- that would plug into SK correctly to make it look right again.
Sighs
Did you check my post? I think you'll find it interesting. Actually, I have a perfect backup of the entire old SK UI folder, just to let you know.
EDIT: Also, it's because of people like you that I'm doing this. Consider it a favor to both you, so you can keep enjoying the game as you love it, and the Spiral Dev Team, so they can keep working on the game they love. (What do I mean by this? It will give the game a horrid reputation if all the old players leave and tell their friends who tell their friends who tell their friends who....)
I see what you're saying, and honestly you are getting more support than I thought.
Maybe the Dev's will take notice and allow editing of the UI, but until then I'll disagree to messing with their creation.
Disagree or not, I do hope you figure out a way to play SK again. With that I'll get out of the way and let your thread move forward.
#1 and unimportant: the new weapons and armors icons are fairly wretched. The old ones were much slicker, well, not slicker but much better.
#2 is it just me? Am i the only one who finds fehzor fascinating? I'd severely like to have a cup of coffee with her. Or, perhaps better yet, be setting at the table behind her while she has coffee with her friends. Yes, that would be better. In this way i could here her uniquely varied (see what i did there.?) perception of the world while not hindering her with the social awkwardness around new people she has proclaimed.
this is all a convoluted way to say that i mostly like her opinions and her writing style makes me laugh. Now if you'll excuse me i'm going to go scour the arsenal for some sweet deals on prism accessories.
EDIT: I changed my mind, too much effort anyway, not worth getting banned over.
the one on the blocks that were reskinned
I think they actually made a new model for that block. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The old model for the unbreakable blocks are actually still in the files (I think). Think Heart of Ice, the unbreakable blocks blocking the heart boxes before you find the switch in one of the rock blocks.
EDIT: Had to mention though, title somewhat misleading to people who don't know you on the forums. I mean I heard of you, but for a second my mind was "oh someone is gonna ask for info on new updates or something"
