After many many hours of work, the Calibur Style Sword is almost finished! It has been a dream of mine to create a real sword, so why not make a sword from an awesome game? This sword will be finished within the next few weeks. I'll work on it as time allows. This sword is meant for display, although you could potentially do some damage with it.

~Specifications~

Blade Material: Plain Steel

Length: 35 1/2"

Width: 2" (At thickest point)

Handle/Grip: Wooden (will be leather wrapped)

Hilt & Pommel: Stainless Steel? Note: Hilt and pommel are still being made!

This thread is here for you to talk about this, ask questions about this, and finally, vote on what sword this should be. Calibur? Brandish? Bolted Blade? What do you guys think? And I might maybe, just maybe... Sell this when it's done.

Are you an actual skilled

Are you an actual skilled knife maker? As in, do you know about blade grinds, knife contouring, HRC, blade steel, micro-bevels, etc. or are you just making it because it because you think swords are cool? It's very rare to find a professional knife maker that plays video games nowadays, still on the lookout for one. :P

A Bolted Blade is a plain, generic sword.
Caliburs and brandishes at least have some colored details that make them more spiralknightlier.

lol

@Dracoultima, I can't say I'm a professional, but I have done some extensive research as well as talking to a master swordsmith about how to do this correctly. As stated previously this sword will primarily be for display/costuming purposes, so it won't be heat treated. And I do think swords are cool as well ;)

@Shadowknow, Nope no classes, just loads of internet research, and some lengthy phone-calls.

It's missing something....

Seems you'd need some nuts and bolts on it for the real "Robotic" look. It seems a bit flat as well.If you don't add some color, it will look like a bolted blade. But I think it would be better as a Calibur, as it's the most "shiny".
Other than that, it looks great. I'd love to see the finished product.

Thanks!

@Linux-Bot, I'm gonna grind the blade down a bit more to get that beveled/rounded look to it. Also, I will add the bolts to the blade as well, Calibur, Proto and Brandish all have bolts in the blade, and Calibur and Proto both have a light in the blade, which would require a bit more effort though it would look epic. I'd love to see the finished product too, lol

Nice blade!

It's a first that I've seen a blade actually forged for Spiral Knights, and I'm impressed so far....

But wouldn't working with a thicker piece of metal achieve that "thick" quality of the Calibur? Well, after reading the posts above, I guess I'll have to see the finished result before passing on my judgement.

Anyhow, there's also the decision if rivets or some other kind of bolt-like decorative could be used...

To answer your questions.

@Vinnydime, Unfortunately it's not as thick as the Calibur, because the Calibur is far too thick for a sword in real life. If I did make it as thick as the Calibur, It'd weigh about 5-6lbs, which is much too heavy for a sword. The average weight of a functional sword is 1.5lbs-3lbs. Rivets and bolts will be added once I get the drill press out.

@Skye-Lightning, yeah, I think it's gonna be a Calibur.

The sword is coming out great, I'm working on the primary bevels (that's what gives the blade it's diamond shape) and the fuller (the groove in the blade) which I will put LEDs in to make it look just like the Calibur. I can't wait to see how it comes out... After putting so much work into it I hope it's awesome.

@Archemiday-Thebard, nope,

@Archemiday-Thebard, nope, people always ask me if it's from a game called 'Blazblue' and in truth, I'd never heard of it until I played this game. I did some research and I realized I came up with this name before the game even came out... who knows, maybe they stole my name?

@Ghret, don't worry, you can legally own and make swords, as long as you don't go threatening people with it or brandishing it in public, you shouldn't have any issues... lol

I've finally managed to find

I've finally managed to find some time to work on this. As you can see, I have made the bevels (the part from the center of the blade to the edge) more rounded, although you probably can't see that too well in the pictures. I have also ground a fuller into the blade, which will be straightened out when time allows... Oh, and one last thing, the blade will be re-smoothed before it's done, it's quite rough right now. Enjoy!

@Thowardz, nope, I've still gotta make the guard...

Yeah, I can't seem to notice the rounding by the pics. I believe you though.

Are you going to go to the trouble of putting LED lights in it?

Keep up the good work.

This is pretty awesome. And instead of LED lights, I'd almost suggest getting some reflective material that captures light better than the blade itself. Otherwise, maybe the LED's could be powered from the guard of the sword? Just an idea. Otherwise this is pretty freaking awesome sir.

I just was thinking, maybe

I just was thinking, maybe the circuit for the LED would be completed by a pressure-sensitive section on the handle, so when you pick up the sword it lights up automatically.
Also, are you going for the look of the standard 2* Calibur or the Tempered Calibur?
