So, I've been wondering about Devilites. After going on the clockworks arcade on "Overtime, Every Time" part, I notice a scenario room. I couldn't put a screenshot for some reason by steam (please help with that), but, here's how it was. There was a book lying on the ground, and it said "5 ways to make your boss happy," and there were 5 grey square buttons, and 5 statues with some devilites. I naturally assumed it would spawn a Trojan after I put them on the buttons, and it did. I didn't really think about it other than an undiscovered scenario room (not on wiki I think), but, then I remembered this . On the bottom at the trivia, it reads: According to the mission: The Return of Ur (Rank 8-1), Trojans are known as the 'Legion of Ur,' and are said to have once numbered in the thousands, Devilites are trying to summon them into the Clockworks for unknown causes. . Then, it made sense. 5 ways to make your boss happy? By spawning, a Trojan. Obviously, devilites are in their offices, TRYING TO BRING BACK TROJANS TO LIFE!?!?!??! SO, what's the deal? Devilites should be ranked as intelligent life, like the Knights and Gremlins, but aren't regularly, because no one knows what's with them. So, what's with them? Why are they turned into gorgos? After the "focus on fiends" updates, I think something will be revealed about these fiends, but I'm not sure what.........

I've met that room several

I've met that room several times -> love seeking out the harder clockworks levels.
The other things that spawn there are:

Cash
a few silkwigs
a few pit bosses

Dunno if that would give you more insight :p

I've always considered devilites to be intelligent. I mean, how do you run a giant, multi-city-wide corporation if you can't read, write, think, communicate, and plan?

Here's someone's take on the devilite-Trojan relationship. Be warned, actual content suggestions are included.

But seriously, about lore. At this point there are two possibilities as to what's going on.

Possibility 1: OOO has an incredibly complex lore web that they are revealing to us very cryptically and slowly.
Possibility 2: they don't have anything and they're making it up as they go.

I'm pretty sure fiends are ranked as intelligent life. You see pit bosses speak, for one thing. Plus, there's Sullivan, the trinket guy. He's a fiend and you can talk to him.

Another is that compounds were described as containing a family of minis controlled by an intelligent force. The minis are beasts, undead and slimes while the other families capable of appearing in compounds are gremlins, constructs and fiends. I believe the idea is that those three families are sapient, whereas the families with minis (or at least just the minis themselves) are merely sentient.

@Zeddy

"The Compounds feature the remains of some sort of unknown facility, where more intelligent monsters await, harvesting resources or perhaps attempting to power up the derelict machinery."

This says nothing about the intelligent life containing the minis, just that they wait inside the compounds while the minis roam around outside.
