OOO could make a certain area where gunners can go and shoot without taking damage before the combat wave belongs, by putting a button there too with the sign of a gunner on it.

instead of trenches, how about towers.
Knights can climb up towers, and shoot enemies from afar without risking damage. however there's a major drawback. Attacks from this tower only do 2/3's normal damage, and should the monsters be able to take out the tower you are standing on, you die instantly. To prevent people escaping just before it collapses, i propose two options:
1. individual players who enter the tower are locked in for 1 minute, and cannot escape until the timer runs out. (it can be seen maybe just above the items bar, like the dash cooldown)
2. Randomly generated health for towers. this way, the players won't know when the tower will collapse, because there are no health bars.
Why don't you take advantage of the range of your gun and the ability to use your legs to run and safely shoot enemies from a distance without any fancy new mechanics?
If gunners get towers and castles, I want a tank that throws my bombs, fully equiped with an autoloader and polaris-resistant armor.
I want a custom circular saw with every sword attached in place of the teeth. And I want it to be attached to this.
I'm a hybrid. So my tower has arms wielding a huge battle axe...and can breath fire. -.-
