The Pepperbox and the Fiery Pepperbox will not be affected by this. The VP can have another 5* variant called the Blazing Pepperbox, dealing pure normal and VP's fire.
So how good would VP be now? Would more people buy it?
How useful would Volcanic Pepperbox be if it dealed elemental damage?

I'm not that sure. People make Blitz mainly for Vana and the trojans in FSC. Also, it's one of the very few and slow pierce ranged weapons, while there are plenty of more mobile elemental guns.
It'll be good and more popular but not on the same level as Blitz.

On a related note, I'd use this gun. Death to Polyps, Gun Puppies, Draco Puppies, Lumbers, Giant Lichens, Mecha Knights galore~

I guess I need to test more. Trying to charge mechas recklessly in the hope that the shield would be defeated, Divine Avenger style, is kinda what I was wanting. That being said, waiting for the target to expose it self is how you use regular shots on wolvers so I suppose its not too dissimilar.
Lone mechas in a Decon zone should be fine, but a dozen in an Arena would seem.. less fine

Making it elemental would certainly improve it. Stronger against constructs and the same against jellies, the only two monster families you would want to use pepperbox against. Blitz would still be better against undead thanks to its baffling double base damage.
Don't think the change would make it all that more popular though.

How good? As good as the Blitz but now you can shoot slimes and constructs without the knockback. So it that case, better than the normal version. In areas where you have 2 kinds of monsters with different defense types, then not so good, such as Decon zones or Arenas. I don't think the autogun charge works very well on Mecha knights, I believe they shield against most of the bullets. But if you want to replicate that 1shot Trojan killer charge shot on Lumbers, Dreadnaughts and Crusaders then is the gun you would want.
Would people buy an elemental Blitz? Definitely.
The current Pepperbox is not a bad gun, it can easily compete against the other 4 normal damage guns as well as the Plague Needle with which it shares the same base damage output. But of course for the general population it loses out against the Blitz for 3 reasons:
1) Killing pierce weak monsters, such as Vanaduke and Devilites. You want these things to die as quickly as possible, rather than just wound them.
2) The increased damage output easily makes up for no status - this hurts the Plague more than the Pepperbox.
3) Once you start using Non-normal damage weapons you tend not to go back to the normal ones. It is easy to get hung up on doing effective damage all the time
For what its worth, I always carry the Pepperbox to fight the Royal Jelly and the twins. I even carry it in Compound 42 - not as crazy as it sounds once you acquire oil fire immunity.
If you really wanted to retool an autogun to do elemental, perhaps the Plague might be a better candidate. Currently it has less reason to exist than the Pepperbox.
