The "Authenticating with Steam" is a problem of Spiral Knights not syncing up with your Steam account. If Steam is down you will not be able to access the game using Steam. However, currently Steam is up (I can confirm this) and you should be able to access the game by rebooting it. Make sure you're not in Offline Mode on Steam. Otherwise you will receive this error.
