Rotating Boss Stratum (as Magnicth called it)

To balance out FSC farming, I suggested in Zeddy’s equipment balancing thread (node/81980) (don’t ask why it’s there. I barely know myself) that there could be a boss mission, perhaps replacing FSC (probably not a good idea) which rotated through various statuses (stati?) and monster types. For example, there could be a Freezestorm Citadel with Gremlin Coolers running around. Of course, the replacement would be accurate, with turrets replacing turrets (polyps for slime levels) and elite monsters replacing elite monsters. The payout would be the highest of all, which would create a new farming zone (farm?).

The goal of this level would be to
1. Encourage diverse equipment crafts instead of all blitz needles (check out Fehzor’s On Equipment and Class Design node/80053),
2. Create a much-needed challenge (but not too hard for the average cobalt knight. Not SL hard.), and
3. Lore? Probably not. But it’s a nice thought.

Implementation Methods
A) Just a plain ole mission: Just add a new mission after FSC. I think that’s fairly self-explanatory, and simple enough. Not likely seeing how difficult the lore could be, and how it defies the current mission system with precursory missions.
B) Replace FSC: Switch out a few words here and there, replace water balls with whatever balls could be used. Probably the most difficult for the devs, seeing how it’s more like a gate than a set mission.
C) Prestige Mission: Could work, but then people could farm FSC until the right one rotates in and go do that instead.
D) Core: Overrated concept, probably not good enough, but workable with lore and some ideas.
E) Permanent Gate: Like a new mission, but different. I think that’s fairly self-explanatory.
F) Entire Stratum: Like a gate stratum that’s arcade-exclusive. Simple.
I think I’m done here. Can't think of anything else. Any suggestions or fine-tuning of details? Feel free to shoot this whole thing down if it's all that bad.

You're omitting the most important detail of this boss mission.

If you don't remove FSC, you're not fixing anything. People will still craft blitzes and farm that instead of your new mission.
And if your mission gives more crowns than FSC, you're 'fixing' a problem by creating a bigger one.

Waterstorm Citadel.

Its a citadel full of water that lights the knight on water, with balls of fire lying about to be used in putting out the rampant water patches on the ground. Then, you must beat waterslags, which attack the knight and light them on water too. The firesprites will make fire come into the wells again... the whole building is on water as well, for the aesthetic. Waterduke will splash the player, and light them on water as well, and he will summon water balls that float about him....

dangit fehzor, fizzyfizz drink is all over my desk now.

Juances is right though, the idea of increased payout on these 'new' levels is only going to make ce prices rise.

Eh. Heh.

Sorry. Totally forgot about the boss because the boss is pretty much the least important part of a boss mission, ironically. Besides ICMF. That boss is totally boss.

FSC Replacement:
1. Vana could be completely neutral typed, not weak nor resistant to anything.
2. Vana could be neutral typed, but weak to normal damage. Go Cobalt Knights!
3. Vana could have rotating typing since he's pretty much a mixture of just about everything. (hehe Vana White. Switches around typing instead of letters)

Non-FSC-Replacement:
1. 6 Preset Bosses that rotate. This can easily be played with, but easily wrecked.
2. 1 new boss with one of the aforementioned Vana ideas.

I'm out of ideas guys. Sorry. Anyone got one?

@Fehzor
Lol. You do know that we shot down the water idea a couple of days ago right? (node/81523) And water isn't a status. Although I do have to admit it was rather funny.

@Qwote & Little-Juances
So it'd be best to just replace FSC? By placing it as a new arcade-exclusive boss we're technically bringing more arcade activity in though. Or not? Lock parties in the stratum before and during this new boss so they have to go through it all to do it?

Welp, I like it.... ._. But

Welp, I like it.... ._.

But you are missing a few details. Lets see if I can fill some in.

Secondly, I think it would be best to make it clockworks only, no mission version. Perhaps make it a side stratum that has a chance to appear in a gate, but doesn't always appear, in perhaps in a stratum of a separate tier that does not already have a boss stratum (for example, a, lets say onyx titan, gate has snarby in stratum 2, and the new boss does appear, and shows up in tier 3 in stratum 6). Perhaps a 1/3 chance to appear? We could even make it more interesting if it could show up in any tier (stratums 2,4,or 6 of course) as long as there is not already a boss stratum placed in that tier, but would only appear in one gate per set of 4 gates. Each tiered version of the boss stratum would have a different token, each type being redeemable for rewards suited for that tier, sort of like the OCH rewards system, but different. I'm afraid you all will need to think up the rewards for each tier version, as I am no good with those.

To keep it balanced, the rewards wouldn't be anything game breaking or extremely overpowered. Perhaps make the crown payout similar to fsc, but not quite as much, or even more since it's a side stratum that doesn't always appear.

The main appeal in it is that it is a side stratum and changes statuses when it appears in a gate, as in being different, or even the same, as the last time it appeared, making more of a challenge if you are not prepared for that status variant. Lets give it a name. How about the "Corrupt Crashsite" or some fancy name like that. As for the types of enemies, perhaps make it interesting, and have the monster families within change with the status. How about:

~Fire- Beast/construct
~Freeze- Slime/undead
~Poison- Undead/beast
~Shock- Fiend/slime
~Normal (no status?)- construct/fiend

Now, the boss will be tricky. The boss could be a giant lichen.....but different. This lichen also changes depending on the status, being able to inflict that status. It is the "Mother Colony", which has mutated since the crash of the great meteorite and has stranger abilities and attributes not attainable by normal lichens. This mother colony could, perhaps change it's form and use those attacks, and changes its form often, perhaps every 30 seconds or minute or so (for example, Mother colony turning into a giant wolver shaped lichen, and using the wolvers attacks, except having the chance to inflict the status of the stratum it has become, and dealing stun in the normal variant of the stratum, and later shifting into a zombie shape.) The Mother Colony could deal normal damage, and be weak to normal damage as well. it could also be highly resistant to the status in which the stratum has become.

Now that details have been thought up, what do you guys think? Sounds good to me.

I'm thinking it'd always have to be there for players to view it as viable to farm. Maybe rotate out one of the other bosses? Or create a new gate? T3 exclusive I vote. To rival FSC viably and be hard enough.

Payout should be at least FSC level to draw players. Probably more considering the effort of going through the arcade.

I'm going to pass on the names for now. Don't want to get too stuck on one idea yet. Also, with the status-monster correlation, I'd switch some of them around. For example, beasts just don't poison well. They shock well. Gremlins don't freeze well. I don't know what they do well.

The boss is definitely one of the most complex parts of this equation. I'm not too keen on having a morphing enemy. The AI details can really wreck the whole thing. Perhaps the lichen for a slime boss, but it'd have to be massive and powerful. Lumber for construct, etc. Or something new. (tortodrone? I just ruined it didn't I.)

I'm done for today.

Currently water isn't a status so I'm going to give it a vague boot from this thread if you don't mind. Lol, Klipik I saw your name and thought There's going to be a link to some post, probably one that already says what I'm saying No offense. You just know the forums so well.

I'd like to have some organization here if you don't mind. First question: Should this level replace FSC completely or not?
