Greetings, fellow knights; my name is Gamer-Troopa, and I am an experienced Guardian. As you may know, in the Hall of Heroes, the Guardian is one of the 9 classes that knights can assume roles of. As such, I have went down the valid path of the Guardian, because being insanely powerful while being protective to your friends sounds too good for me. For those who desires to be valiant Guardians like me, here is what you may need to be a proper Guardian:

  • Work your way towards either Ironmight or Volcanic Plate helm.
  • Work your way towards either Ironmight or Volcanic Plate mail.
  • Work your way towards either Ironmight or Volcanic Plate shield.
  • Work your way towards the Sudaruska and Callahan (Iron Slug can be an alternative, but not recommended).

...and there you have it. I hope this information will guide you well. Now, being a Guardian doesn't mean that you're all... say, "super-tough" stereotypes. The main roles of a Guardian is to withstand abuses for others, and clear out mobs using powerful, Area-of-Effect weapons and heavy, plated armor.

Now, you guys may think we need lighter armor and/or weapons, because of the fact that we're ridiculously slow and always the ones to carry the heavy stuffs all the time, but THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. We stay true to our kind, as valiant Guardians of the Spiralian Order.

Powerfull area of effect weapons?
Heavy plated armor?

Now that would be a true guardian.

(facepalms) Let me clear this up.
  • First of all, the Big Angry Bomb belongs to Remi's (Bomber) arsenal, despite it being a powerful, Area-of-Effect weapon, so that doesn't count.
  • Second, the Ancient Plate armor is an redeemable item from Brinks, and not from Izola (Guardian), so again, that doesn't count.

As you may notice from the other "Ask a [X] anything" topics, we tend to focus on the equipments available in the Hall of Heroes, so what you mentioned above doesn't count in the arsenal of the Guardian. :P

I was going to start this thread myself, at some point. It was going to be a genuine thing, as I like the guardian playstyle.

How do you deal with that danger room that's full of gun puppies and scuttlebots? I always have trouble with it using guardian stuff.

I have an important

I have an important question.

I like heavy weapons myself (Khorovod is my favorite sword so far). With plate mail, you have
to get all the way to 5* to have ANY piercing resistance, and then you get a speed debuff. If
I keep using wolver-line armor, I have resistance to piercing all the way, and once you get to 5*,
pretty much everything seems to offer max protection against whatever it protects against.
Not only that, but I'll be able to walk and swing faster than a "true" guardian, AND my huge sword
will do even more damage than usual because of the damage buff. So once I get to 5* like you,
I'll basically be just as well-protected as you, not to mention faster AND more dangerous.

My question: What's the point? Or is there a hidden dimension of defense hidden behind
the edge of the resistance bar?

All you really gave for

All you really gave for "tips" was to work towards any/all of the 5* items the Guardian sells at the HoH...not exactly the most detailed of guides.

If you really want to help people who play this style you need to give strategies. You say you like to defend your teammates, how does one accomplish this? Big damage? How do you dish it out?

You can't just say "get this gear" and thats it...This isn't Diablo III after all...

True, Ndognine.

@Zeddy:
If you are soloing Danger Rooms like this, ever heard of "Stealth"? should you encounter the Gun Puppies spawned in the Danger rooms, the first thing you might want to do is NOT to get caught within their "line of sight". A careless move can catch every Pups' attention and the room turns into bullet hell REAL quick. Take a quick look at where they're facing and try not to get in their "line of sight".

  • If they didn't notice you, you can sneak around and give 'em a quick overhead with a charge attack. While you're sneaking around them, don't get too close or they will notice you. If they still didn't notice you, well... just give 'em a quick overhead like I said. Just make sure to take them down fast though.
  • If they did notice you, TAKE THEM OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you plan to use your Troika (Callahan wouldn't work well against Constructs), close the distance while defending yourself from their projectiles. Once you close the distance, like I said, take them out as soon as possible. If you plan to use your Iron Slug however, simply take them out in a distance.

As for the Scuttlebots, their pattern is easy to predict, so you should have no problem dealing with them.

If you're attempting Danger Rooms in parties however... well, I'm not sure, but I may spare a few tips:

  • Since you're mostly a melee combatant, as a Guardian, you can rely on the other members to take down the Gun Puppies for you, since your Callahan, like I said, is almost useless against Constructs (unless you're using Iron Slug). If your teammate is a Gunslinger, good for you if he's using Alchemers to take out the Puppies.
  • A good strategy I would recommend, is that you can stand in front of the Gun Puppy's line of fire, to protect your fellow Gunslinger for him to take it out. Just make sure you have plenty of shield-power to keep up the defense long enough.

@Gent:
If you were to compare Ironmight with Skolver, the differences are:

  • Ironmight provides more Normal defense, compared to Skolver;
  • Ironmight slows wearer down to Medium Attack-Speed-Decrease (ASD), Skolver boosts wearer's damage with swords to Very High;
  • Ironmight resists Stun, whereby Skolver resist Freeze.

The same can be said for comparisons between Volcanic Plate and any other Volcanic sets. Answering your question:

  • If you were to look at either Ironmight or Volcanic, their normal defense reaches beyond the stat bars, even when they are unheated, meaning that they can reduce more than 50% normal damage dealt by monsters, compared to Skolver's or Vog's 37%(lvl 1) - 42%(lvl 10) normal mitigation. Remember that normal damage still exist in some monsters, even in Tier 3, so it's not a bad idea to equip some normal defense on yourself.

Hi

Hi there, i am a valkyrie knight and from what i heard, the plate shields are good against everything, especially Trolljans, is that true? Coz i am thinking about getting an ancient plate shield, which is a downgraded plate shield but still retain most of their property. The main reason i want a plate shield is becasue my aegis and owlite performs horribelly against shadow enemies, and i have a tonnes of almirian seals that idk what to spend on. So do u think i should get the ancient plateshield or should I get a proper skelly shield?

Hmm, it depends.

Because of the fact that Plate shields possess an insanely-high normal defense, this can be true, even with Trojans. Like what I said above, Normal damages still exist in some monsters, even in T3.

If you're dealing with Trojans, the Plate shield mitigates Normal damages and Stuns the Trojan deals, meaning the shield can hold up longer. I can't say the same for its Shadow damages and Shock (only when buffing) though, but it's possible to survive the Trojan's attacks while shielding. As for the other monsters, it depends on what kind of damages or statuses they are dealing.

If you plan to get an Ancient Plate shield, just take note it's similar to the Volcanic Plate shield, only without Fire resists. The amount of Normal defense for the Ancient Plate shield is unknown, however, because of the fact that its stats went beyond the bar, so we can only assume it mitigates more than 50% Normal damages, like Ironmight or Volcanic Plate does.

If you plan to get a Skelly shield instead, it's a good choice if you're having trouble with Shadow-dealing monsters. You can, however, go for the Crest of Almire as an alternative to the Skelly shields.

What do you do when I run up to you with my Gran Faust in LD and two-shot your shield?
Also, what are your defenses against insults?

Hmm...

@Krakob:

Even though I don't play Lockdown very much, I'd answer your question, just for your satisfaction.

"What do you do when I run up to you with my Gran Faust in LD and two-shot your shield?"

  • Simple; fight back with timed hi- (gets shot for trope references)

"Also, what are your defenses against insults?"

  • Ignorance. I just play the game. :P

@Thowardz:

There can only be one... Guardian. Cause I'm not myself when I play the other classes (Striker and Recon). XD

Toothpickers

How do you deal with toothpickers in LD? I'm not a gurdian myself, but I use troika-line
swords, and I'm pretty helpless against those rigadoons and brigadooms and riggerbooms
and other fancy swords

More rubble; less trouble.

@Gent:

Toothpickers... Oh man, this is going to be a tough one to answer.

Because of how the Flourishes work and the damage they deal in-game, they can be unfair weapons, even in PVP. Fortunately, they only deal Piercing, so you can wear Piercing armor to counter it. But don't rely on them too much, as you can only take reduced Piercing damage while wearing them. Even then, you can still be screwed in a few hits, by those DAMN SKOLVER CLONES.

If you really want to counter dem "Fragile Speedsters", there is one thing to consider:

AVOID DIRECT CONFLICT. The arsenal of the Strikers focus on Speed, as their main strength. The arsenal of the Guardians, however, focus on sheer power. This can mean two things:

  • As a Striker, speed is their strength;
  • As a Guardian, speed is YOUR WEAKNESS.

Should you face a boosting Striker (as a Guardian), you have no choice but to defend yourself from the onslaught (in other words, prepare to be barraged). But remember, as the attacking Striker, when you run out of juice (booster power), what do you get? A normal knight. As the defender, use this to your advantage, as a slow Striker is a dead Striker (in other words, attack when the Striker runs out of booster-power). Plus, Strikers usually have less health due to the -3 Health Penalty from their Strike Boosters, compared to your +9 Health Bonus from your Guardian's Shield. Unless, of course, the Strikers use Heart-Pendants.

Speaking of Pendants, Strikers can, also use Sword Modules to bolster their already-insanely-high damage output with their swords, but JUST be thankful that the bonuses cap at Maximum!. Even then, like I said, you can still be screwed in a few hits.

@Thowardz

  1. Nah. Even though we can be tired, this doesn't stop us from being insanely-powerful protectors. Plus, it's a good workout too. XD
  2. Because... we treasure the lives of our friends and loved ones more. There are times when the world will fall into chaos, and you may never know when your friends or loved ones will be in danger, even if it involves death. As such, we'll always be valiant protectors; risking our lives for the safety of our loved ones. Also, because of the fact that we're insanely powerful, it feels like we have the power to control violence with sheer force.
  3. I dunno; stuff 'em through the vents? For beverages however, We use straws instead of drinking from our bottles. :P

True, Dusk.

@Thowardz:

  1. Nah.
  2. If you meant the classes in the Hall of Heroes, possibly Gunslingers and Bombers, if they lack a sub-weapon for self-defense. If you meant Lockdown, Recons. Cause once you're spotted, you're already dead.
  3. In terms of "Rare Species Cruelty", I WOULDN'T VIOLATE IT. If I had to, I'm a sorry, cruel murderer.
  4. Given the standard equipments from Izola's arsenal, it's possible, but you can only stop them temporarily before hell breaks loose again.
  5. Again, it's possible, but other equipments do better in some cases, so...
