Cons: You get noticed

Pros: "Any enemy player with a "Recon Mark" who is hit by another pulse receives a "Death Mark" and has their defense removed for five seconds!"

My thoughts

Is the recon/death mark really useful?
Whats the point of having a opponent death marked and have their defenses down when you cant even hit them? Another thing whats the point of being "recon" and being unnoticed and invisible when there is a recon mark that tells your opponents that there is a recon around and they will start hitting everywhere to look for you.

Thoughts and of opinions are welcome as long as they are NOT OFFENSIVE

...

If recon didn't have the mark, the game would be unbalanced and recon would be overpowered.

Striker :)

Ehemm Striker is supposed to be.. the offensive type, as the name suggests. Recons and Guardians r support, if they do their job right... One of the reasons its bs recons got buffed....

Anyways, recon deathmark is very useful wen used right. I have only been part of deathmark strategies a couple of times, wen the recon death marks a whole team standing on a point, while a strike comes in and spams his GF... the team on the point gets obliterated. A striker accompanying a pro recon can be a great combo.
If you are soloing, u can also use it to take down a superior player as ur hits will cause more dmg per hit than theirs ;)

Be careful, I don't wanna give advice, but deathmark is a double edged sword, wen the target is deathmarked, everyone tends to hastily try to hit the target. This leads to very predictable movements.. unless the target is being mobbed (in which case he is screwed).

Of course its useful! It

Of course its useful! It renders armor and no-life UVs (triple maxes, and similar stuff on armor) useless for 5 seconds. But you can approach a stationary enemy and get 1 or 2 hits off before they notice you, depending on your speed and their reaction time.

I would use deathmark if you see someone with expensive accessories on, cause they most likely have the triple max uvs. But if its an ash tail with a blazebrand, just kill him in 2 shots with ur flourish.

But the question is...does the deathmark take away status defense?

It adds about 100 damage (2.5 pips) to most attacks, more if they are wearing armour effective against the attacks. 200 if you're using a dual-typed sword.

Lockdown is a team game; just because you deathmarked an opponent doesn't mean you have to kill them. You can use it to assist your teammates or just apply it to enemies for the scare factor.

Also, it turns antiguas into killing machines of death.

The death mark is definitely

The death mark is definitely useful for recons. I don't really play the recon class but a recon using the death mark really helps to kill off enemies. I've also fallen several times because of the death mark.

The fact that it gives away the location of a recon is probably good thing. I think there'd be a lot more 'what just happened?' deaths if there was no warning. This makes the death mark a powerful tool for recons but limits its use so as not to be too overpowered. Now that recons can take multiple shield hits, it's a lot more useful than before.

In my limited experience as recon, it's effective but not for its intended purpose. Maybe because of my inexperience, but I found that whenever I deathmarked someone or a group of enemies, I couldn't even get near them because they all started spamming whatever weapon they were carrying with the biggest reach all over the place. It's not effective in a 1vGgroup situation, it's only marginally effective in a 1v1 situation, and in a GroupvGroup situation it is good, but extremely hard to use because of its short range. That said, if you do manage to get someone deathmarked, they'll definitely feel the effects if they actually get hit during that time. Mostly, it's just good for causing confusion and making people hyper-defensive.

Definitely useful.

Deathmark (the actual effect from the 2nd ping) is definitely useful. Reducing your opponent's defense can make otherwise non-viable weapons viable for a moment, helps teammates, etc.

The problem that people tend to run into is the 1st ping warning, and IMO, the big problem is really the way they try to get to the 2nd ping. Most recons tend to do this:
[cloak]->[warning]->[deathmark]->[approach and attack with sword]

It's terribly predictable, and in between warning->deathmark, they don't do anything.

In reality, it's actually possible to do this:
[cloak] -> [warning]-> [attack]x1-3 -> [recloak] -> [deathmark] -> [attack]

The way I see it, if you're going to try to do a sneak attack on a target, instead of completely avoiding the deathmark, you can try to approach them in a way that the radar pings them AS you attack. This way, after your initial attack, if they survive, you can recloak and deathmark right away.

People tend to forget that Recon naturally favors guns with ASI , so you can use that to catch, bait, or straight up kill someone who's swinging wildly while deathmarked, so you can safely attack from a distance and take full advantage of deathmark's benefits.

I'd think that 2.5 pips surely would not be worth letting people know you're there.

Yes, it's defiantly helpful.

Yes, it's defiantly helpful. If the other team is crusading, you can keep them in place for about 15 seconds if your good due to them just swinging their weapons around in a silly manner. It can also stop people who are traveling, giving your team more time. People tend to think you want to finish the death/recon mark and this that you'd be around.

eh?

I'd think that 2.5 pips surely would not be worth letting people know you're there.

A: No mark
You sneak up with no warning and get 1-2 free attacks

B: Warning-attack
You sneak up, ping with warning and AT THE SAME TIME, start attacking for 1-2 free attacks

--->

A: No mark
> You miss/they survive > your attacks are the same strength

B: After warning-attack
> You miss/they survive > you recloak once > deathmark > your attacks are stronger and they're more likely to retreat.

---

simultaneously pinging and attacking with at least a possibility of deathmark sounds like a much better deal, especially when you're having to deal with multiple enemies at once.

I think with a death mark, my sentenza shoots 8 bars off a player, and you can get quite a few shots off in 5 seconds :). Valiance is also pretty brutal

Love it!

I'm not sure a Recon should ever go alone, since that Deathmark is a beacon for gunners to spray like no tomorrow.

When you put a Recon with two Strikers and a Guardian, you've got an A team XD. Healing/guarding, debuff, and two wasps prodding the other tean.

Just be sure to hang back once you've got all the enemies marked, and you're set to shoot and slap all you want.
