Tilt the analogue stick slightly, you are at walking speed - tilt it to the maximum and you are at running speed. That's the general idea. The lack of precision when it comes to the controls is really hurting, being unable to make slow steps makes the whole experience painful.
Analogue movement speed
"That being said, the ability to move slower would certainly make navigating certain hazardous situations easier"
Raise shield and you move slower :P
"Most of us use -keyboards- which do -not- have an analogue stick. That being said, the ability to move slower would certainly make navigating certain hazardous situations easier, and this game is too easy as it is."
No pal, it doesn't make the game easier. It removes the fake difficulty which is the imprecise controls.
Fake difficulty is still difficulty. You still didn't explain how or why the majority of players should spontaneously have an analogue stick on their keyboards. Or better yet, would you like to supply the large majority of SK-players with one?
Does EA provide you with steering wheels for Need for Speeds? Start making sense.
You need to start making sense. Why would OOO provide an advantage only to people who use gamepads or controllers? Granted, OOO hates people, but they generally hate everyone equally. People that use those devices are an incredibly small majority.
Did you come here to cry about how you can't afford a gamepad and now trying to solicit one from OOO? Talk about pathetic.
Are you calling the majority of PC-gamers pathetic because we prefer a superior and versatile control format? You come here crying about why your little toy should give you an advantage. Dat hypocrisy, it's almost palpable.
-1. Why?
No sense.
No use.
No point.
Extravagance for pad owners (ANYONE IS PLAYING THAT GAME ON PAD!?!).
U need more?
I can't help you poor people outside of giving you this advice: get a job.
Just because it's shiny and expensive doesn't mean it's worth more than the materials it's made of. I do in fact have a job, I just don't spend money on things that I have absolutely no need for. A little thing called wise investments, you should try it sometime.
Sounds like you got jealous over my gamepad. Oh man the advantages of the gamepads, I can kill people with just one press of a button, with a tilt of the stick I'm on the end of the maps!
I hope this thread gets closed. It turned into Paweu gloating about his gamepad and nothing to do with the suggestion.
i also hope Dementia will just ignore all the posts Paweu makes form this point to avoid a troll.
You're suffering from a little thing I like to call, "Buyer's Obligation." Because you spent your money on this thing that you don't need, you feel an obligation to believe that it was worth the money, lest you suffer from, "Buyer's Remorse." It's alright, we all feel it at some point, no need to get angry over it. The fact of the matter is, OOO isn't going to throw a bone to people suffering from self-indulgence and excessive pride in a piece of plastic. This suggestion failed before you even thought it up. Congrats on wasting all that money though!
I imagine poor people need to really restrict their spending, on the other hand, people with jobs can spend money on entertainment. Get a job, poor man.
I use shielding for this. Have a look at an article I wrote on the subject of using gamepads for PC gaming here: http://theabandonwarefactory.wordpress.com/2013/05/29/if-you-dont-have-a...
Trivia: a big amount of OOO staff prefers using gamepads to play the game. The game has analogue movement (several direction, not 8 directions like with WASD) which is used by gamepads as well as click to move mouse.
Shielding is nice when it works but it doesn't for bombing/charged up weapons/recon shield.
I would hate this; I wouldn't want my knight to not move at full speed just because I don't have my analogue stick tilted all the way in the direction I want to go.
I'd prefer a key that just makes you move at shield speed.
The maximum I was talking about was the deadzone that the devs would setup - allowing for being precise while not forcing you to totally tilt the stick. A separate button to go to shield speed isn't what I want because it doesn't really add any precision, it just adds a slowdown button.
There is already one. You'd be surprised but you basically mentioned it in your post. I'm with you here, anyway. I need to move fast as Sonic in Lockdown, for example.
Thanks for re-railing the thread, everyone. It was getting nasty there for a bit. Carry on.
Just trying to do my job and failing miserably and then getting it caught on tape so Zeddy can insult me. I don't disagree with him though, it's hard to be a defender/guardian :P
EDIT: Oh wow, I must be tired. I'm mixing threads up...
There is the shield key, but as Paweu mentioned earlier, you may not always wish or be able to shield at a moment when you would like to move at half speed. While charging weapons, for instance.
Charging weapons does slow you down already, though. Maybe not sufficiently with all, no matter. Some blast bombs, heavy swords, vortexes... Anything else?
I Have a gamepad too and when I am in a tough fight in the clockworks I tend to alternate between having my shield up and lowering shield. Practice makes perfect.
But I also like your idea
Oh please. Go to all the links.
But more on topic... /shrug
You guys are nerds.
Fighting on a fantasy game thread.
/lol
Most of us use -keyboards- which do -not- have an analogue stick. That being said, the ability to move slower would certainly make navigating certain hazardous situations easier, and this game is too easy as it is.
