I play another game that I know makes money off free to play players via ingame advertisments. I'm not suggesting Sk should do some form of ingame advertisment to make money. I was just wondering if the community would accept some form of advertisment if it meant more or faster content for spiral knights.

I am quite interested in hearing what people have to say on this matter.

People buy games to have fun (well, this is F2P), but people don't pay to see constant ads. We see ads almost everywhere now, but not games.

you want to die horribly.
another game that I played built an in game advertisement on only for F2P players. half of them leaved in the following week. they still have them. at least it's not flashy as before.
so, no. I would trhow fire vials at OOO until they realize they did something horribly stupit and come back.

If they have to, I wouldn't mind it but I'd strongly dislike it.

Why would Spiral Knights need in-game advertisement though? Most of the time, games like that use Advertisements to pay for their Servers.

I was just wondering if the community would accept some form of advertisment if it meant more or faster content for spiral knights.

This won't speed up content, all it'd do is increase the amount of profit they make. Profit isn't the problem here, the problem is that OOO doesn't have a large enough staff to produce content fast enough or efficiently enough. If they used more of their money hiring more staff, I'd be okay with this.

-Maybe-

If they did away with unbinding costs or something to compinsate.

Truthfully though SK has such a peaceful and serene unique environment though I feel it would really cheapen or demean the game.

This isn't some FPS where you can just ignore a coke or pepsi billboard while gibbing everyone in sight.

There's nowhere they would fit in without just being, "HEY LOOKIT US WE HAS ADS IN UUR GAEM AND U SHUD BIE AR STUFFZ". It would completely break immersion.

lol, before taking things that far, they could add surveys and ads on forum.
Ingame ads makes it look like they are desperate.

Though I could understand forum adds if OOO actually had good forums.

It's bad enough that every time I enter Haven I get spammed with a dozen BUY THIS SELLING THAT messages in ZONE chat instead of TRADE chat.

Oh god... don't even... have you seen the statistics as for how many players leave before reaching Haven? You want them to see the F2P trappings that scream pay to win, AND advertising on top of it? We're lucky we even get half as many players as we do.

If all of the players with at least one 3* or higher item for each basic equipment slot (one weapon, one torso, one helmet, one shield) were to do everything in their power to prevent new players from playing this game, it would never be equal to the hordes of new players who close and uninstall the game as soon as the first ad appears.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

As soon as I see the first ad, I'm blaming the gremlins for spamming our uplinks with random garbage!

In other words, I'm happy the SDT didn't chose to do this.

Interesting

Ty for the feedback. Like I said I'm not suggesting they add ads merely interested in what people think.

I would like it to be added, if it meant remove of elevator cost, I like anything that means remove of elevator cost.

That wonderful Smile is gone for Eternity

Depends on how the ads are implemented, really. That said, I've never seen ads in a game.

well, I played games with adds before, some of the adds were annoying like a movie that would play during the loading screen, but sometimes they were just tucked away. so I don't mind.

People who quit the game before reaching the haven basically haven't even TRIED the game.

It's like playing Pokemon and giving up before you even get the ability to capture pokemon.

No, I will not accept this

No, I will not accept this and it would be ineffectual because I'd be laughing my butt off too much to see the ads. I've seen it done in games before. It's usually a losers attempt at not being a loser, the dispirit attempt to gain income from a site that *%&#'s and can't be profitable in it's own right via users. The worst I saw of this was a site using it to advertise to it's own customers. Um...you already sold them. To advertise means to go out and bring new customers in not sell to those you already have. Seems they had no control over the ads shown. Twas the place that was doing their advertising. XD

Im going a little but off topic here but....

@Ellthan-Cosmolion

Im glad that OOO have implemented an energy system. If there was no energy people would do FSC 10 times a day, not to mention that the company would make barely any profit. If people could spam FSC then everyone would be rich. Then everyone would have everything, and then there would be nothing else to do. It's a bit like I never want to core to be opened. Why you say? Because then what? Alpha squad may or may not have been found and we can leave cradle happily ever after. (Well not me :P).

Also if you want the energy cost to be free then you can always buy an elevator pass and show your support :D

But yeah usually some games do things like watch these ads and get this and that! But ads usually drive people away from the game. I don't think I would because it's a great game, but soon I would get quite bored watching ads.

As long as the ads don't

As long as the ads don't interfere with gameplay, with like super annoying pop-ups, I wouldn't mind them. On another note HI HOLLA IT'S BEEN FOREVER!

@TMP

Going even more slightly off topic, the core doesn't had to be the end of the game. It could open up a second chapter in the story, and be something like this.

I do agree with you on the energy thing, though.

I honestly wouldn't mind if

I honestly wouldn't mind if the ads were visually unobtrusive. Perhaps we could have ads on billboards in haven or certain areas of the clockworks and coliseum maps (kinda like how it was done in some of the 3D Sonic games). Anything subtle would be great.
