So I'm putting this here because I feel brand new again (Not used to the new enemies yet). I'm on mission 7-3 (Spark and Roar), and my first level was a freeze undead/construct level. I have 4 star gear and stuff (Yes yes cobalt, I'm ashamed) and a blizzbrand. I also brought a nightblade because the icon looked like gremlins and I hate gremlin menders. Sword only VS the scarabs became the hardest thing I've ever done in SK. EVER. Worse than Vanaduke runs, worse than carrying scrubs through the Jelly Palace. Is there some kind of obvious trick I'm missing here? All I've done is run in and try to hit a few with my super slow swords, and dash off before I get hit a bunch of times. It doesn't work.
Scarabs: Apparently I suck
Blizzbrand super slow? I kill'em with a DA... wide swings sweeps them easily.
I agree that swarm enemies are not easy for short, narrow swords such as Brandishes. As Edolas said, keep moving, so that the monsters charge at where you used to be. Do try charging, if you have enough time and space. In regular attacks, swing early, trying to catch the swarm monsters with the tip of your sword. If they get too close to you, then the game decides that they've hit you, even if it doesn't look that way to you.
If you have a long, wide sword such as DA, GF, Sudaruska, or Triglav, then try that next time, as Little-Juances suggested. You can also try knockback guns and bombs such as Polaris and Nitronome.
In the end, I don't know of a simple trick for dealing with these enemies. They are a new kind of enemy, that requires an adjustment of tactics. Three Rings has given us legitimately new content, which is nice.
Is it odd that I find the Scarabs to be a piece of cake and the Glop Drops the bane of my existence?
What is the best way to fight Glop Drops? I've noticed that there is almost never a good opportunity to combo them, and they can't be readily bumped away.
Default solution for minis in pretty much all situations is Vortex bombs. They do quite fine on their own but I imagine an Electron would combo rather well with Blizzbrand charge.
@Thinslayer
Gravi Vortex is absolutely magnificent against Glops. If you plant one right after they spawn, you can in most situations kite the majority of the swarm into it and then you've got your work cut out.
"Is there some kind of obvious trick I'm missing here?"
There is, actually. Kite them into a group and wipe them out with a suitable charge attack, such as your blizzbrand.
I never fought any of the minis other than the dust bunnies ( they cost me 10 mist on rev when i was sorrounded by them during 9-2 mission terminal meltdown), these nusty little bunnies are like the zerglings from starcraft. Leaping towords me and chew up my shield like a piece of cookie. Again, it is fault on my part due to i did not wear quick silver and equiped with night blade and polaris ( amazingly, I brought my aegis, which did save me ), note to my self, next time, bring a blaster instead.
I'm having basically the same trouble. I also tried using a Silversix, but that didn't go very well either. However, there was a moment where I was doing well on them on that mission. That was after I unleashed a charge attack on a group of them with my Blazebrand BUT... my internet started lagging like mad and then I died.
All I can say is... Ready charges on the masses of them. When they're in group, mass AoE a bunch of them and run from what's left to do whatever you need to complete, or finish them off if you can. Also, when are they on the ground, take the chance to kill them before they fly.
If you're willing to not use a sword, a Dark Briar Barrage wipes them out really fast.

So, having trouble with the Bugs? Here's some tips for you . . .
You would be best finding something ranged like a Gun, however,
Seeing as you like your swords, the Blizzbrand's charge will do.
Next thing is to keep on moving. Never stay still.
Stand still for too long and the swarm will..well...swarm you.
Now, when they are buzzing, avoid them, then attack them when they are grounded.
Remember: Buzzing = Bad. Grounded = Good.
*Spasms from shock* Sorry, I do that sometimes. Let's Carry on.
There are also 2 areas they can be:
If they are outside the compound, It's a limited number, take them out.
If they are inside, they will probably be coming from vents and thus will keep on spawing.
If you find yourself in the latter, then dont worry about killing them all, just kill some and run.
The Blizzbrand is good vs Undead (The Scaraby husks), so gives a nice upper-hand.
Keep using that. Even if they may be Ice also, the Elemental damage is all that matters there.
Only other thing I can offer is Good Luck. You still have all the other annoyances in the Compound to contend with!
Hope I've helped a bit.
