Gun switching with the same UV

Some time ago, in some odd place, possibly on these forums, I remember reading someone mentioning that using two guns of the same type with the same UV to switch will not register as two weapons but one single weapon. Eg. if I used two Callahans with ASI Med on them, when switching the game will force you to reload after shooting the second Callahan.

My memory is foggy, sorry for the vague post. Can anyone give any information about this?

I don't think so. Been switching guns with 0 uv and swiftstrike buckler, doing just fine.

I believe that is the case, yes. You could easily buy 2 punch guns and try it out though.

That might have been my post.

That might have been my post. :P

I'm fairly sure that is true, thus requiring you to roll a 2nd uv onto one of the guns.

It was a long time ago though, and my memory is foggy as well. But I'm almost certain that's what happens. Different heat levels may cause the game to differentiate the guns.

I recall it too, it was posted by Darkbrady, amongst other people. There might be something distinguishing 0 UV from actually having a UV for some reason.

I know for a fact switch shooting 2 of the same gun doesn't make you reload.

And ASI still works for it too, but not sure on UVs (although it stands to reason that it would still work).

sort of off topic

I thought I had read the same as well (about switching two of same-weapon not having the weapon timer cancel/refresh effect), but it seems there's enough anecdotal evidence here to say otherwise.

---

But before you go off making two of the same weapon (costly at 5*, and even moreso if you're trying to roll the same UV), I will say that by using a slightly more complex switch technique, you can reuse the same weapon at the same high speed and with the same benefits as alternating attacks.
`__`;

It's a little technically complex when it comes to inputs, but it frees up a weapon slot and saves you a bunch of CE.

I'm sure there are videos and stuff out there for it (I call it "double-switching", but I have no idea what others call it), but feel free to add me if you'd like a demonstration/speed comparison in-game lol. It's definitely made my gameplay experience more fun/active.

Yes, it doesn't happen with

Yes, it doesn't happen with guns that don't have any UVs, I've tried it. If that mechanic is a thing then that's unawfully inconvenient. Granted, I don't think anyone would be in a situation where they'd need to use two of the same gun with the same UV on them (nor would they own them) but it's interested to see that's how our weapons are registered in the programming.

@Seiran: Ah, that one. Thefirstgamer showed me once, but geezy I don't feel like getting arthritis at this age. :P

@fingers

Whenever I show people in-person, I always emphasize that they don't have to use the same inputs as me, but to use something comfortable. Most of the time, it seems they're doing too much with one hand `_`; shielding, switching, and attacking all with the mouse hand is insaaane.

I imagine each equipped weapon has its own weapon timers of some sort that get triggered when you attack. This leads to things like:
- reloading with a gun even if you shield between shots
- being disallowed from attacking when doing slash-shield too frequently (I believe the player is probably being sent into the final swing's delay and can't attack until after that delay is over)

But these timers reset whenever you change weapons, which probably leads to the effects that we know and love :3

Actually yeah. This is true.

Actually yeah. This is true. I bought two asi low shadow tech alchs and found out you can't weapon swap them. I imagine you do change weapons, but the change weapon animation doesn't occur. You can't cancel it. Let's say you have three weapon slots.

A sentenza, a umbra driver asi low, and another driver asi low.

Sentenza, space, Umbra, and when you press space after this umbra, there's no weapon switch animation. If you try canceling, you'll end up reloading. However, press space again, you're back to Sentenza.

I said to heck with it and gave both of my Umbras a second uv. Case solved.

Seiran, what controls are you

Seiran, what controls are you using? I still need to figure another way to switch-shoot, doing it in a moronic way atm.
