Who wants to help me get a darkfang shield? I got a plan

So heres the plan:

Phase I: Gate Creation
From what I can deduce, drops work based on status and monster type fought, as well as level fought on.... but this last part only seems to effect winmillion and treasure vaults, as far as I can tell, and Unity from KoE who did find a darkfang has said that arenas work for it, and are in fact preferable.... This conclusion is not set in stone, but seems likely based on the drop thread, found here:

Statusless = no drops associated.
Shock/Fire/Poison/Whatever = a bunch of stuff that isn't a darkfang shield.
Gremlins = Darkfang shields + heavy demo gear + deconstructor + a few other items
Every other monster (except maybe construct, which COULD share a drop set with gremlin, but why risk it..) = Also a bunch of stuff we don't want.

The optimal darkfang level, and only one that we'll likely see one drop in, would be Iron Edge Arena: Wrench Warfare as this fits the criterion above and houses a large number of boxes... we'll also need it to be in stratum 6.

Gremlins = Red + Blue minerals; and we'll want to build several gates to maximize the chances of finding what we want.

When/what gate?

Currently Diamond Skull gate; it is the next one up, and I'd like to find this/get it done asap.

Phase II: Box/Level Duplication
A common trick used at the end of danger missions is box duplication. Once you finish the danger mission levels, everyone should go solo prior to opening the boxes. At the end of that danger mission you get 40-50 boxes or so, which becomes 160-200 once people all go solo. This increases the number of materials and item drops found by 4 times the original amount. We'll want to use this in two ways, first, by having small party sizes to begin with, and 2nd, by bringing alts to kick afterward to get twice the boxes from the final section of the arena. The last part of an arena has 15 boxes, so each level completed with an alt gets us a substantial bonus to our chances.

Level duplication would further get us more arenas. If we have say, 64 people working with us, it should look something like this:

3 levels before arena: 1 party of 4 people; splits into 4 parties of 1 person at the end of the level; goes down
2 levels before arena: 4 parties of 4 people; splits into 16 parties of 1 person at the end of the level; goes down
1 levels before arena: 16 parties of 4 people; splits into 64 parties of 1 person at the end of the level; goes down
....64 ARENAS.... if all is done right.

Alt accounts can also help us with this.

2 levels before the arena: 4 people; each solos, goes down
1 level before the arena, each person carries 3 alt accounts to the end, the alt accounts then split and go down to the arena, and wait.
16 arena parties waiting.

Phase 2 will begin:
-When a suitable level is found
-When we have enough people with alts to assist us. I'm hoping for at least 10 people, preferably more. After this, a date will be set and we'll duplicate/farm as many statusless gremlin arenas as we can.

So why exactly would I spend

So why exactly would I spend my time and precious mist energy to help you in this task that has a low chance of succeeding? And even if it does succeed, who gets the shield, and what about the rest of us?

Well

Is there a solid record of where Darkfang shields have been found before? Even the kiwi seems unsure with this part of Darkfang-shield-hunting, but perhaps they only spawn in certain levels where gremlins are (i.e. deconstruction zones) rather than just with gremlins.

I'm down. However, I'm probably going to do this differently. I'll do phase 1 as planned, but I'll probably do the whole phase 2 solo or bring my friends down as I'm not too good at T3 arenas. Also, can I get a confirmation that Darkfang Shields spawn in all gremlin theme levels and not just deconstruction zones?

@Dirigible:The wiki page

@Dirigible:

The wiki page says they are found in Stratum 6 (depths after the T3 terminal and before the core) deconstruction zones, but it also says one might have been found in FSC.

@Son-Of-Hades

Because this is also the fastest way to farm crowns by playing the game.... well, its exactly as fast as Firestorm Citadel+vendoring the almirian seals, maybe even a bit faster depending on how quickly you clear either. Each arena will give you around 2.5K... Because of the level duplication, that is, where we all go solo and use alts, you'll probably only have to do a couple of "bad levels", which will pay out 900 cr or so.

Basically, it would look like so if the arena is on D27:

D18-D23 = 1 person that we probably won't know, we'll use party finder to find them.
D24: 1 person = 900 cr
D25: 4 people = 900 cr X 4 = 3,600
D26: 16 people = 900 cr X 16 = 14,400
D27 = arena = 64 X 2500 cr = 160,000

64 + 16 + 4 + 1 = 85 levels = 850 energy spent overall per trip down.

160K + 14.4K + 3.6K + .9K = 178,900 crowns gained from this

=2.1K per level on average per level, which is the same as FSC's 7.5K + 3K from the tokens.

Whoever finds the shield, if anyone, keeps it. The goal isn't for me to get a shield, its for SOMEONE to get a shield.

@Dirigible

Unity confirmed finding one in an arena, and all signs point to it being a part of the standard drops for gremlins, as that is what deconstruction zones are.... it might also be a fire themed item, which would explain why it was found in Firestorm Citadel. However, no one has found a darkfang via C42 yet, so I theorize that the drops from that mission contain 4 themes: Fire, Slime, Poison and Gremlin. Slime and beast share a theme, and it wouldn't surprise me if gremlin and construct did as well... but we haven't found any there, instead, we find a lot of other more common drops. The only way not to get these would be to go statusless+gremlin, as fire would inevitably give the drops associated with FSC (firebreak armor, fallen armor, hot edge, etc.)

If you'd like to, you can go and read the drops thread that I posted... I summarized my conclusions that I came to, though they aren't entirely exact.

Wiki is slow to update, and wrong to some degree.

So what if we find it?

Then we'll have found it, and one of us will get to keep it.

That's the part of the plan I don't really like.

I'll help with the mineral

I'll help with the mineral drops, I already have been doing just reds and blues.

But won't the one person

But won't the one person party soloing the arena thing be kinda useless if the new loot system makes it in game? If the new loot system does make it in game, every person in the party will get different drops from the boxes. I'd recommend trying phase 2 after the update if/when the loot system is brought in, it could simplify your whole process and make it easier.

Gear drops are apparently back and seem a bit more common. Up for another round of this Fehzor? We'll have to skip the gate construction phase but I think it'll be fine if we run the gremlin mission, especially the prestige if we just go around without ever completing it.
