The name's Janem. Stopped playing spiral knights 6 months ago because of the no progressing storyline. (Plus I realized that Pvp was wasting too much time for me and I had an epiphany- why am I doing this?) So recently I became bored with League and I checked back here with my old pal, the spiral knights community and see if they are still doing good. Also, this is a troll thread. Don't get me wrong, I used to loooovvveee SK. but In my opinion, OOO should stop just updating gameplay and add a little advancement to the storyline every once in a while.

Sooooo... is the core finally opened? Or are we going to have a three year wait for it? Is OOO just saving up for the grand finale, a super mega epic ending that will blow our minds? Did the jelly king find love? Am I ever going to stop asking questions?

The longer the core opening is delayed, the higher expectations I will have on how epic the ending will be.

Does League of whatever have a progressing story?

I dont think they ever open the core because that means the story ends, therefore the knights find the power to leave cradle.

League of Legends is far less story-bound than Spiral Knights. LoL is pretty much Chess 2.0 and it's always PvP with some rankings thrown around in certain modes. In fact, one of its major sources of backstory stopped updating because its players didn't care about it enough.

Spiral Knights, what with the advent of the Mission system, is likely more story-based than before since pre-Missions was non-linear and practically aimless (beautifully so). Strangely, only a handful of missions really reflect this (Razwog, for example). I can imagine they have all sorts of story stuff to throw at us, since that seems what a mission system is most apt to do. They have loose ends besides the Core waiting to be tied up, most notably being the Swarm.

So, the question isn't whether the story will progress or not, it's a matter of when will they stop throwing new things into the game before fixing what's already in there. There's effectively zero story in the Mission system besides the main goal of the game- get to the core and open it. It's bland missions, information 'missions', one-off-wonders like Silent Legion, bosses, or "congrats you got to the next rank". They really need to tie in a new boss with the storyline somehow that doesn't involve recovering a dropped Alpha Squad data module.

If they don't refine what they've already got, they might as well have made Spiral Knights more linear for nothing.

OOO Administrative Impression in 3... 2... 1...

Silly forum-goers, adjusting the core game mechanics is CLEARLY more relevant than story progression. Just look at what we are doing with the new battl-oh yeah... that is right! Testing forum is the only thing that can even mention sprites.... EVENTHOUGHEVERYONEHASHEARDOFTHEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!2@!!!

In any case, clearly story progression is irrelevant.... why don't we just push it farther away from needing to be progressed? Sure there is the whole "creativity" thing where we can brainstorm a reson they would remain on cradle, but WHO CARES?! We haven't thought of one yet, so we shall just update with cool features and progression blocks to prevent concern and need for it!

I personally like to think that the Sanctuary at the end of the Unknown Passage is inside the core. The Recon Module at the entrance to the core pretty much describes the finale of the Unknown Passage.

To be honest, I'd rather face up against Tinkinzar and his other 8 buddies (Already fought Seerus...) than the core.

They could make what ever is

They could make what ever is in the core some super crazy sentient energy that was locked up by the gremlins because it was just murdering everything so when we unlock it the core monster starts attacking us. It could work as a new boss so technically the game won't end because we can't use it

Above comment is a reasonable

Above comment is a reasonable expectation of the content of the core. Lore in game hints that the core may be restraining an evil force.

It may not have progressed recently, but it has more potential than, say, league.

I'd prefer that they took their time unraveling the story, anyway.

oooor there could be missions to repair skylark, find parts and materials, lalala

we could even add new worlds, like the knights homeworld that got wrecked by a war. we wouldn't have to abandon skylark, just move between the two worlds.. COUGH MAPLESTORY COUGH COUGH

Actually, that is about what my thoughts were as to what would happen when the core finally DOES (rephrase: IF it does) open and the story would otherwise achieve climax and end. Some MMO's keep the game open even if the story ends, though.

Regardless, in note to my former post, it shall be reminded that there is much story that has yet to be uncovered BEYOND the core that, quite frankly, they still aren't covering; instead releasing simple new features or gameplay changes that serve to delay this. OCH DLC is the closest thing we have toward any idea of what the gremlin hierarchy MAY be, and has most of the story content on gremlins properly explained. Ironically, i still do not think it goes in-depth

I mean, obviously you have to cater to the younger (more properly said as lass capable of processing such a vast story) audience as well as those who are older or at least have their grip on things... but there is a lot to be surfaced here. Think about it, all we know about the crimson order from the expansion and pre-expansion dialogue is that it was one of the major parts of the gremlin social structure, and played a large role in it's military force. But even that is debatable and littered with potential half-truths. Are gremlins indeed led by some council that King Tinkinzar is just chairman of? Are they split into factions beyond, say, ironclaw-aligned and emberlight-aligned? Is king tinkinzar just a rumor the knights have come up with? Why is the gremlin leadership, whatever it may be, so hell-bent on eliminating the knights who simply want to leave them be? There is much that has yet to be clarified.... and don't even get me started on the origin of the clockworks itself. Theories there range from the gremlins themselves, to the work of the gods which inhabit SK's also-unknown pantheon. Sega, i believe, has proven it can do storylines; and while OOO technically runs the show here, i would certainly expect a story not ridden with bullet holes of missed facts. Not from ANY game company... except, say, Zynga. They just make facebook games, and quite frankly, noone cares about them

Well...

Canozo's got it right. That was exactly my thought when I read this thread topic. There will be nothing else to the game left. Although to be honest I'd be fine if it was like one of those things where once you complete the game it basically freezes and you have to quit the game to get off it, basically meaning that you'll never finish the game. If anyone here has completed Ocarina of Time/Majoras Mask, you'll know what I mean.

if you read the core recon

if you read the core recon module it says the core did open but only for a few seconds. a couple of knights got into the core and who knows maybe we will get to rescue them and the core might have the SK's homeworld in it

League of legends.

It's a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) type game just like Starcraft 2. This game (Spiral Knights) and the two I mentioned all have lore. If that isin't a story element I don't know what is. XD

Just pointing out. League of Legends has a LOT of lore. considering how EVERY MAP and EVERY CHAMPION has its own story... That's like 4 maps plus 114 champions. Heck even the items in the store has their own lore. Compare that to SK. SK has like... lore on the world, each character, weapon... not really for every monster in the clockworks since its all.... just there. Oh and also, there is a "The Journal of Justice" for even more lore.

Just pointing out. SK needs more content. like always.

the problem is that the game

the problem is that the game has not progressed for like two years. 5* is still the highest lvl gear and vana is still the hardest boss. games keep doing this thing where they help out new ppl and make it easier but never give anyone a reason to stay and keep playing really.

ok so now you can start a new account and never run out of en if you are even half way smart about it thanks to the mission system. there's a boss in each tier. pvp is out. there's a nice variety of gear and weapons.

next thing is more progressive content right? wrong! its little companions that follow you around and help you out...say what? i mean it's nice and all dont get me wrong, but the game needs to progress.

Can't wait for content?

Play a different game that has user created levels like:

  1. portal
  2. osu!
  3. minecraft

there's more games with user created levels (beatmaps for osu!) I can list (believe me there's a LOT more), but these are just 3 games my friends play.

@Nomamekm: Wrong. The hardest

@Nomamekm:
Wrong. The hardest bosses are Rabid Snarbolax and Darkfire Vanaduke. Want hard content? Go to the shadow lairs. I like to do one per day so I can keep improving, since I have a feeling that the core is probably going to get to that difficulty level.

Battle Sprites actually aren't too bad. I want to level mine up to its ultimate so it will finally match my volcanic set. I'm also continuing to play because one of my ultimate goals is to complete that costume, then roll some epic UV's on the coat so that the coat would be worth a ton while the costume helm would be priceless. Also, has anyone besides me (other than guildies) thought that the shield bash, dash, and battle sprites has all been trying to build up to a high difficulty level for the core? Why else would we need EXTRA defensive and offensive buffs on already easy content that will just get easier? I'd rather all of the different monster family lore be explored first before they go ahead and open the core.

If they do open the core, I would like the shadow lairs to be added to the rank missions. Basically, do with those missions (in rank) as they do with prestige missions with two slight alterations. Allow one playthrough of the mission, and after you complete it, you can never play it again or join a party playing it, and force them to all be played in order. You'd have to go back to the arcade with shadow keys. You get both the story progression and OOO gets to keep making money on those.

Honestly, after you find Vana easy, you're better off trying to either get UV's on your gear or get accessories for your gear. I prefer the accessories since the large price tag goes to something I always look at.

A Not Bland Mission

Someone said something about most missions being bland (which I agree with) so I go carried away with coming up with an unbland, difficult mission for those of us who have already finished the mission system.

Battle Haven: Tons of Trojans attack Haven, and the actual mission travels throughout the districts inside Haven. From the Bazaar to the Garrison there would be a large number of Trojans in each district. There could be be a few mini boss trojans (Maulos like) in each district to add more of a challenge, with the strongest miniboss being in the last and hardest district to free (Town Square?). In some missions I remember you have to break knights out of cages so maybe at the end of each district of Haven there are Knights for you to liberate (at least four per district) and at the last district you end up with 12 of the cpu players helping your squad out so that its more like you are liberating Haven and Haven eventually starts to fight back with you.

This could fit into the storyline as multiple Trojan Legions somehow being summoned (maybe by the devilites?) to attack Haven. Rhendon could fight along with your squad (heroically die in the end?) and there could even be a cool fight scene between a Guardian Knight and a Trojan.

Just kind of bored doing FSC over and over. This could be a fun challenge.

I'd still prefer it to doing FSC over and over. Also just because you have a blitz doesn't mean you can't challenge yourself by not using it.

How about a gigantic swarm of Alpha Wolvers (several hundred or so) all with the original homing ability invade haven. :D Even if you blitz charge into a crowd, you'd get swarmed in seconds. And no crowns. :o
