Simple question:

Say I have the following sword
Blah sword of blah
UV: Very high AS
UV: Very high CTR
UV: gremlin damage low

if I bought a 1 variant ticket, could I keep 2 of the variants by locking in? or do I have to use a 3 variant ticket?

If you have three variants on a weapon, and you roll 1 UV on it, you loose ALL THREE of the UV's on the weapon, and are replaced with the new random variant.

So basically: Yes, you need to use a 3 variant ticket in order to keep those two VH UV's.

IMO, dont get greedy man and just keep those two VH's and leave it at that.

Thanks for the response, I

Thanks for the response, I was merely wondering what the cost would be to get the "perfect" weapon

Judging by the costs

ASI and CTR are all you need anyways. It's impossible to cover all monsters with a damage UV, there's skolver for that.

9,680,000 crowns

Little-Juances has pointed out the essential asymmetry between damage UVs and ASI/CTR UVs. This is what makes the blanket damage bonuses given by certain armors and trinkets so valuable. To estimate the expected (roughly speaking, average) cost of getting ASI+4 and CTR+4 on a sword or handgun, you can do a calculation like this:

First, you buy 1-UV tickets until you get one of these UVs. Assuming that each of the eight possible UV types has the same chances, you have a 2/8 chance of getting either ASI or CTR. The chances of getting +4 are roughly 1/16. (Don't take this number too seriously. I don't have detailed data on this.) Thus your expected number of tickets, to get either ASI+4 or CTR+4, is 1 / (2/8 * 1/16) = 64. Each ticket costs 20,000 crowns, for an expected cost of 1,280,000 crowns.

Next, you buy 2-UV tickets until you get your second UV. Assuming that each of the seven remaining types has the same chance, you have a 1/7 change of getting ASI or CTR (whichever you don't have locked in). Assuming that the chance of +4 is still 1/16 (this is really a wild guess, but let's go with it), your expected number of tickets is 1 / (1/7 * 1/16) = 112. Each ticket costs 75,000 crowns, for an expected cost of 8,400,000 crowns.

Thus the expected cost for getting ASI+4 and CTR+4 on a sword or handgun using Punch is 1,280,000 + 8,400,000 = 9,680,000 crowns.

Seeing that math, it makes me

Seeing that math, it makes me so glad I only rolled 900K CR to get CTR H and ASI VH. Luckiness trumps all.
