As usual, I joined a party to do an FSC run, as I wanted to not only farm crowns and tokens, but I also wanted to heat my Ancient Plate shield. During the 1st and 2nd depth, I was having an argument with Demi-Gode, who was using an Volcanic Plate shield at the time. In the end, I got booted from the party due to the argument, so I'm here to share my anger today.

To me, I felt that Ancient gives more normal defense, despite the lack of Fire resistance, compared to Volcanic Plate shield. I know the stats shown on the shields looks similar, but I always felt there is a "hidden dimension" beyond the stats that it could normally show. Plus, when I arranged my equipments based on the Natural arrangement (in the Arsenal), Ancient Plate is shown above Volcanic.

So my question of the day: How would you feel if someone argued over two items that seem to have similar stats, like my case? Leave your comments below and correct me if I'm wrong; I'd accept it.

You're asking whether people should argue over equipment? Yes, they should. That's the reason for this forum.

However, at some point the argument runs out of information. After that, people just keep rehashing the same points, getting nowhere. If you got kicked out of a party for arguing, then my guess is that the argument had devolved quite a bit...?

Regarding the actual content of your argument, the normal defense statistic bars are maxed out on both of those shields, so it's conceivable that one has more normal defense than the other. You could settle the argument by running a test of how much normal damage the two shields can sustain. (They appear to have the same health.) Probably this test has already been done.

I suppose so.

Just a few things to add on:

My Volcanic Plate shield is fully heated (lvl 10), and it has a "Low Normal" UV. When arranged in Natural, it is shown above my Ancient Plate shield.
My Ancient Plate shield is only heated up to lvl 3, and it has no UVs, currently. Shows below Volcanic Plate shield, when arranged in Natural.

I haven't tried any tests to compare the two shields, mostly because the two shields are of different heat levels. Plus, results will be different, due to Volcanic Plate shield's "Low Normal" UV.

Also, I have watched a review of the Ancient Plate set before, but the only comparisons made is with Vog Cub, to test its normal defense strength.

So...why in your first post Ancient plate is above volcanic, but in 2nd post volcanic is above your ancient and what is this natural arrangement thingy? New UI stuffs?

Did you two argue in such a way as if the other shield is worthless?

Common sense dictates that Ancient *should* be stronger (volcanic having an extra status defense).
But OOO has it's special way to balance things, so who knows...

Regarding the question through OP asked at the end his first post, I have no issue with debating the merits of various equipment items. However, the middle if FSC is probably not the place to do so. Finish farming, then head to haven and discuss it there. I find it very annoying when people start commenting or asking irrelevant questions about my gear in the middle of a run.

I'm pretty certain Ancient Plate Shield has as much more normal defence than Volcanic Plate Shield as Ancient Plate Mail has compared to Volcanic Plate Mail. It's a substantial amount. However, Volcanic Plate will be superiour against fire-based attacks.

Anyways...

I have done a few tests in the Advanced Training Hall, to compare the strengths of both shields on certain hazards. A few notes before I reveal my findings:

Both shields are fully heated (lvl 10).
My Volcanic Plate shield has a "Low Normal" UV, which alters the results slightly.

Now, the findings of the tests:

Spike hazards:

Ancient Plate shield: 10 hits before breaking
Volcanic Plate shield: 9 hits before breaking

Fire grates:

Ancient Plate shield: 5 hits before breaking
Volcanic Plate shield: 9 hits before breaking

Other hazards (Poison/Shock/Freeze grates):

Ancient/Volcanic Plate shield(s): 5 hits before breaking

Final Result(s)/Conclusion(s):

Ancient Plate is stronger than Ironmight/Volcanic, in normal defense. [Concluded]
Ironmight/Volcanic is stronger than Ancient, in overall defense. [Concluded]

None of your tests deal with normal damage or list Ironmight Plate Shield at all. How did you reach the conclusions?

who gives a about shields! any person with heart will be more disgusted by the teammates behaviours and im not gona side with either of u looking at the tiny info

the shields..do their job and they rock!

gaining experimental data on shields isnt an issue, but u can do something about uhh is there even a word that fits in here? xD

cmon man, even knowing and proving 1000 times wont make the social situation any better
for an unknowing person, 2 people contradicting each other are the same, even if 1 of them speaks the truth
people will always judge according to what seems to be the case or of matter and not what the actual case is(if it matters at all)

sure, you have more information about certain shields now(and that doesnt make your words sound much more convincing, which means you will still have to deal with the same kind of situation somehow), but wouldnt u rather just put a tiny amount of that effort and time into keeping the team together? after that u can still do your research n stuff, while having outwitted ur rival in a completely different area, which involves caring for every person in the party and not just you 2, AND u get to enjoy the game without getting agry at all (:

Don't test in the ATH

The ATH is kinda stupid for testing. My swifty (No UVs) can tank 7? hits before breaking. I did this testing back for thinslayer's thread which qwez linked.
