I have a Iceburst Brandish that has a med damage vs. Gremlins. Yet when I use the sword I do more damage to undead and gun puppies. When I hit a gremlin, the number damage graphic is small and darkened. Anyone else had a problem like this?
Have UVs ever gone wrong?
It's not your UV, it's the whole sword.
Iceburst Brandish deals half-Elemental damage. Gremlins are resistant to Elemental. You'll be dealing maybe 60% of your standard damage on an enemy that resists Elemental (50% from Normal, 10% from Elemental).
Chances are that you are doing much more damage than you would if you didn't have the UV vs Gremlins.
The Iceburst Brandish deals elemental damage. Undead and constructs take extra damage from elemental damage, and that should be reflected in the larger, red numbers that display when you hit them with elemental damage. Gremlins are naturally resistant to elemental and would show smaller, grey numbers when hit by an iceburst brandish.
The UV should affect the damage you're doing, but will not change the way your numbers are displayed (you'll still get larger, red numbers for constructs/undead, and smaller numbers for gremlins/beasts). If you compare your iceburst brandish against a normal iceburst brandish, yours should be doing more damage to the gremlins.
Oh thanks guys! Didn't know those buggers had resistance to elemental
I used an iceburst brandish last couple weeks until I could finally afford to make it into a blizzbrand yesterday, and I can confirm all that has been said thus far. IMO Gremlins are one of the hardest enemy types to fight with this sword, partially because of their fighting tactics, but mainly because of their elemental defense. I'd hold onto this UV if your planning on using glacius, as I do. If not, then you should hook me up :)
If you still aren't sure that the UV is helping you, I'd recommend trying out a same level, non UV iceburst brandish. Some of those gremlin variations are tough when your only doing a percentage of your normal attack, especially if your in a game with 3 other people!
Don't you love bashing constructs to pieces? The sound it makes is very satisfying if you ask me.
Yep.
Beasts resist Elemental.
Gremlins resist Elemental.
(A thick fur or scale hide protects them from the elements... Literally.)
Slimes resist Piercing.
Constructs resist Piercing.
(No blood vessels to bleed with.)
Undead resist Shadow.
Fiends resist Shadow.
(They dance to Thriller together.)
On the other hand...
Beasts are weak against Piercing.
Fiends are weak against Piercing.
(Silver bullets slay a werewolf; a stake through the heart will slay a vampire.)
Undead are weak against Elemental.
Constructs are weak against Elemental.
(Frankenstein's monster was both. "FIRE BAD!!")
Slimes are weak against Shadow.
Gremlins are weak against Shadow.
(Jellies are too stupid and delicious to escape zombies, and Gremlins are irrationally afraid of the Thriller dance.)
"Elemental" includes all elements except Shadow. A fire zombie is still weak against fire-based weapons since they still count as Elemental. You just can't inflict the Fire status on them.
If you ever forget, each monster type's weaknesses and resistances are listed on this page. http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Monster
Awesome explanation Gigafreak! I definately gotta copy this word for word
It's because your Iceburst does Elemental Damage, and Gremlins resist that.
Constructs and Undead are weak against Elemental, so that's why.
