Hey,

Are the update servers still crappy as before? Im asking because Battle Spites update is coming and i wonder if OOO have done anything at all to make updates run more smoothly, not like those in the past.
Will it end up just like the old updates, where it will take 3 hours to update and then there will be some kind of bug that will require another update that will take another 3 hours to finish.

And if OOO will make any compensation like half price elevator or other crap, those people who actually were uncomfortable with update wont get anything from it since it will be middle of the night in their time zone.

No-Thanks
wut

i havent had any issues with spiral knights updates
they have always done the same thing

download/w.e is called
install/w.e is called
validate/w.e is called <- id rather turn this off tho if i could

perhaps look in technical support section

note that ive been using steam for a long time and dont remember very well how it updated before that, but i also dont remember having had any issues without steam either in terms of updating game client

It might be a problem with your end if you are downloading the patch for so long. Mine wouldn't take that long, just a few minutes and done. Validating is rather long and sometimes the patcher does not completely work even though it has been validated, leading to missing models and stuff in the game. Well, this is a small game after all.

Just asking, i remember it

Just asking, i remember it was VERY COMMON problem in previous updates, people were reporting instane long update times and there were a lot of screenshots with something like 1584 minutes remaining or even time going up instead of down.

Oh no, don't worry. The update times can still be extremely long.

Honk honk. Make way for the dead bunny.

They only become very long if you try to update IMMEDIATELY after they patch. I think it's because a bajillion players are trying to update at the same time, so it gets messed up. Just wait 10 minutes and patch.

^

Spiral Knights is addicting to lots of people, so those people try to patch immediately.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

This is a problem exclusive to the standalone Windows client. The Steam and the Linux clients do not have this issue. (I can't say for Mac because I don't have a Mac.)

@Grimranger

Only reason? Why would you not like Linux? :P

If it makes you feel any better, they've replaced the Microsoft OS on the ISS with a Linux one because the MS one was crashing too much. Therefor...PENGUINS IN SPAAAACE.

The only reason not to play SK in Linux is for Steam, but that should come around soon. (Hurry up OOO, I still want to get a Steam mask and can't until you finally get things sorted out...)

In short:

-Servers still suck (Suprising, isn't it?).
-Updater still downloads half of game every time.
-Downloading update just after it goes, it's suicide to you and all others.

Mtax, are you a windows user?

On every patch where people say it takes hours to finish, my Linux does it in less than a minute. RIGHT AFTER RELEASE.

Um...

Lawl. Thanks! Different is good. You can't get a much stronger argument in favor of Linux than that.

Lol hex, this has nothing to do with compuhtaz, it haz to do with how much you rage. The more you rage, the faster it becomes.

Only had the infitine

Only had the infitine download time once. Usually it gets done in a couple of min even if I update the sec the game shuts down. But I guess there must be a problem on some level, just because some of us don't have issues, doesn't mean it ain't broken, that's common in the software world for issues and bugs to happen to only a part of the users. It should be investigated.
