What is the strongest shield/armor for tier 1? Obviously plate, right? Because everything deals pure normal damage. But which plate? The 5* one, right? Or is it? I tested a 3* nightblade and a 4* blizzbrand in the T1 training hall and against all targets, corresponding (neutral nightblade vs neutral blizzbrand, weak vs weak, etc.) and the nightblade was stronger in every aspect. So this means that the 3* plate is most likely stronger than the 4* plate. What about 2* and 5*? What's the strongest?

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Interesting questions...

2* plate, I'd say, would be most powerful. But, this is just a guess so don't hold me to my word! :P

Wrong.

The most powerful armor set for T1 is Chaos and a Swifty, for obvious reasons. Since Swifty is technically a T2 shield, it will offer decent defense in T1. As for Chaos, status effects aren't really much of an issue in T1. Throw in the fact that it still has a decent amount of normal per piece, you'll still be able to tank hits very easily. (I've beaten the Snarby mission in it with reckless abandon, running straight through spike grates and thorn bushes to save time and never being worried about my health, never even bothering to shield against enemies) When going through T1 while being overequipped, it's all about the offensive bonuses since ancient plate would have no significant difference over Chaos in T1 besides extra health and the movement speed decrease and attack speed decrease. People overstress the need for normal defense in T1 to such a large degree, really.

@Autofire
Chances are that 3* is most likely stronger than 2* but that's also just a guess.

@Little-Juances
I'll definitely consider that. Thanks.

@Dementia-Praecox
I have absolutely no fear of dying in T1. The reason I'm asking is because I'm curious and I intend to take a bashing on purpose from the Trojans in Blades of the Fallen. In 4* woofy gear with a low normal uv on the armor part I could have withstood about 8-10 direct hits (my plate shield barely took damage) but I'm probably going to need more protection since I'm planning on enduring quite a bit more.

@Zeddy
Those things are awesome. When I get bored I run the entirety of RJP with just those two.

I'd go for Ancient Plate

I'm not sure if you want 'Movement Speed Decrease: Med'. You can alternatively use Vitasuit Deluxe, it probably has less normal defence than the Ancient Plate mail, but it still gives +3 pips in T1 (if I remember correctly).

The health bonus will trump all other defences in my opinion. With the full Ancient Plate on, you have almost doubled your health and you have great normal defence. (Ancient Plate is also pretty simple to get)

I'm not really sure on the specifics of it because I have not done a T1 run in a while where I want to use my Ancient set, when I could use my Mercurial set to run around.
