How to fix the Original Shard Bombs to work the way OOO wanted them to work

So, if I understood it correctly, OOO meant the original Shard bombs to be used for killing monsters off huge distances. People were using these not how they were meant to be by planting them right in front of enemies. That's why they changed them to what they are now. But OOO probably didn't think of the most hated weapon other than the new shard bombs... The Polaris/Trollaris. How about we do this:

Step 1- Let the old shard bombs reincarnate in the form of some other bombs to prevent the deletion of the current line
Step 2- Make the Shard Bomb projectiles work like Polaris bullets (With the original shard bomb speed and shard design tough) - They are very weak at start, but get stronger as they travel
Step 3- Yay! The Shard Bombs are back! Everyone is happy!

I thought the issue with the shard bombs was that people were using them to snipe?

The problem with oRSS was that they weren't bomb-like enough. I don't see how this solves stuff.

Just remove invinci-frames on these new shard bombs. DPS will be much higher.

@Battlegrinder That's just hilarious; if they wanted people not to snipe they wouldn't have made the range so big. The problem was using them up close.
@Krakob Eh, they didn't mean this in a realistic manner. If they did, Nitronome would 1-hit everything pretty much. Instead, they meant the fact the most bombs have WEAK damage and the Shard Bombs were capable of killing a monster in 2-3 plants or less if all bullets hit 1 monster.

What they meant was that oRSS functioned as sword, gun, and bomb. With a somewhat reduced shard range and an arbitrary hit limit on the shards, I'd find them perfectly bomb like and balanced.

Still, OOO isn't/aren't dumb. If that's what they didn't want they would of have just shortened the radius and decreased the damage.

hit limit on the shards
Citing Nick, "Our intention with the shard line was to have them ‘spread out’ and hit multiple targets at once". As you can see, "hit multiple targets at once". So Hit Limits don't seem to be the solution here.

Gosh... Can we have a Developer to explain the entire reasons and all (Sorry Nick, I'd say you explained just 40% of the case) instead of making us create derpbillions of theories on it? Saying "Not very bomb-like" won't close the case. We need details and information from A-Z.

The real problem with the old

The real problem with the old RSS was the multi-hitting.

I mean really, being too much like a weapon of another type? Tell that to the Polaris. That thing's just a long-range bomb that doesn't get affected by the striker packs charge time increase.

The simplest way to solve the problem would be to make the shards spawn in a wider ring around the bomb, and not on the actual bomb itself. Your idea would work well too, although I'm not so sure about them expanding the same way as Polaris shots do. Way too much stuff would be bounced around. Perhaps they could expand and zap nearby enemies without knocking them all over the place.

@Orangeo I never said it would contain any knockback (Pretty sure the oSB's bullets just did damage and interrupted, didn't knock back) I also never said they were gonna grow as they travel.
