Warning:

Spiral Knights is one of the games, that you can't review it if you didn't reach high level in it. For example, a T1 player - like most youtubers that reviewed SK - doesn't know the end-game content of the game, and he also doesn't know how different it is than the first tier. T1 looks like a game for +3, and the monsters there, isn't really catchy, thus, I'd like people of T3 to put their review. However, if you aren't T3, but you ventured there for once, twice or thrice, and have general knowledge about the endgame content, then you are allowed to put your review. All of this, because I want to see a fair review for SK.

---------------------------------------------------

I shall put my review later on. :3

Interested.

I've beaten T3 and 2/4 SLs (almost never solo), and have played for about 2 years now. I may write a review. :)

I can't make a video, tho. xD

1) It's good. Dad found it

1) It's good. Dad found it for me back in April 2011, I quit for 6 months when I was still 0* because I found they were teamed with Sega, I found SK-fan art and that made me think "If it's good enough for fan art..." Then I return to find out SK is the best freaking under-rated game in the universe

2) Pros:

+ Good, colorful graphics. Sometimes cute at times.

+ Simple yet effective gameplay

+ THE ONLY MMO I'VE EVER PLAYED THAT'S NOT A CLICHED KNIGHTS-AND-DUNGEONS-AND-DRAGONS-AND-WIZARDS-IN-MEDIEVAL-TIMES!

+ Too... Much.. Easter eggs... and originality...

+ Kick[redacated] soundtrack. Deserves replaying frmo time to time to fit the mood

+ THE ONLY MMO I'VE EVER PLAYED THAT HAS A PROGRESSABLE STORY MODE CAMPAIGN!

3) Cons:

- Needs more storyline progress. Open the core please?

- On the forums, it's like 50% whiners/complainers out there. But they don't seem to be on often.

- There was a few updates that killed it down for me, and the upcoming one might do that even more

- Despite me loving SK, I'm still sketchy about the future updates

- People who play SK just for the TF2 hat, will find themselves laying face-first trapped in shadow fire in Vanaduke's room. Curtosy of yours truly.

4) Gameplay: 7

5) Graphics: 8

6) Story and Lore: 9

7) Soundtrack: 10 (Lol nice sorting there, OP.)

8) Creativity: 9

9) Balancing 6, It could use a few buffs and nerfs here and there.

10) Items: 9. A lot of variety out there to suit your needs

11) Total: 58. I added them all up. XD. if you want an honest answer, I'd give it 60.

No-Thanks

from my pov i liked the weapons functionality and the zelda-kind-of gameplay, that was my impression when i 1st started

imo asking end game players to review the game isnt as good as asking newer players
the newer players give an excellent introduction to the game in its current state, while older players would be focused more on issues, which ppl come across at a late point in the game

or at least thats how i feel about the games, that ive played

2. pros: many weapons with many different functions
3. cons: obviously needs energy to play

What originally attracted me

What originally attracted me to this game was the zelda style gameplay with online coop.

Pros. There is alot to do in this game even when your not running maps such as merchanting, using the auction house , crafting with alts etc.
For me lockdown is a unique pvp game. I like the fast paced arcade gameplay. Even though it has its ssues, I still enjoy playing it. This is the first multiplayer pvp game I have played that wasn't an fps. The general gameplay, the journey to 5 star and experiencing all of the pve content is really good. I like that even though the game is simple to pick up the core gameplay is based on skill. By this I mean it's not necessarily about your level or the gear you use.

Cons. After you have done all the pve content. Unless you are really into lockdown, the rest of the game becomes a grind just to get crowns and buy stuff. Eventually it got to a point where I found the best way to make money via grinding was run fsc solo whilst dragging an alt. This becomes boring and doesn't promote the social experience which originally attracted me to the game.

The lack of endgame pve content. The way the game ended up everything became about generating crowns so you end up running the same maps that generate the most profit per mist. The only really viable options are fsc and danger missions. Sure you can do the other missions for fun but you won't make as much crown for your time/mist energy. Due to this I ended up not running them so much unless I was bored or wanted to run with friends. Even all the events tend to be about grinding to make profit.

I don't agree with alot of the decisions the devs took with regards to updates.

Overall I would give the game a 7/10.

@Klipik

I agree. It would be better if PC gamer went to the endgame so he knows what he's talking about and has a fully built opinion. I'm not saying he doesn't I just wish people wouldn't pre-judge.

1. I originally got into SK for the Tf2 hat. From then I really got into the game. I started back when the arcade was the life of Haven, constantly crowded with players running to and fro, depositing minerals and jumping down gates. I'm not sure I fully like the direction SK has went with missions and all... but I don't fully despise it. I do wish they made some more incentives to go into the arcade rather than missions, beyond the small things like level variety and scenario rooms. Spiral Knights has some issues with it's target audience, with the dialogue and earlier parts of the game being geared towards a VERY childish audience, while late-game is a completely different game.

2. Pros:
+ Skill based combat
+ unique MMO combat style (for example, there is no such thing as a "tank")
+ Players are not restricted to fixed, unchangeable classes/roles
+ Large variety in combat styles
+ Large weapon variety
+ Amazing in-game audio
+ Fun and interesting variety of level designs
+ High skill ceiling
+ Enjoyable PvP
+ Money is not required, nor does it give a substantial advantage
+ A cartoonish art-style that varies from cute mewkats to stylish Chapeaus
+ Absolute brilliant ambiance, from the small details in the scenery to the perfect musical selection

3. Cons:
- The forum community is filled with whiners and complainers
- A lot of immature and outright irritating players in-game
- missions make the game too linear and narrow
- Later in the game gets really grindy
- the transition from 3* into eventually 5* is painfully long, slow, and repetitive
- Some weapons/fighting styles are clearly more viable than others
- The GRIND
- The in-game dialogue varies from cringe-worthy to childish

4. Gameplay Score: 9/10

5. Graphics Score: 10/10

6. Story & Lore Score: 1/10

7. Soundtrack and Music Score: 10/10

8. Creativity: 10/10

9. Balancing: 4/10

10. Items: 9/10

11. Total: 53/70

Because their survey forced me to restart completely

One of the best games I've played. Has a bit of hack n slash wih some strategy, some PvE, some PvP, some adventure, some action and a bit of everything else. The diversity was amazing-at first. The two things that really sock you in the nose are the energy system and the Hall of Heroes. Just about everything else is amazing.

Pros v cons
Adventurous v needs more adventure
Diverse v needs more variety
Viable storyline v needs more lore
Somewhat addicting v energy system makes you stop
Free v grinding
Some Strategy v somewhat chaotic
Good graphics v high quality lowers fps quality slightly
Sociable v lag

Gameplay: 8 (grinding seriously killed it)
Graphics: 10
Storyline: 9 (could have more)
Soundtrack: 10
Creativity: 8 (oRSS and overall could be a little better)
Balancing: 4 (vanilla set aka skolver clone/blitz vog)
Items:6 (needs more variety by far)
Total:58

Basically, we need more. We need a bigger game.

Well, let's start off.

I first started Spiral Knights about... '11 October-November? Winterfest was barely half a month from then on. Being my first MMO, I was well, a newb/noob and didn't know much about the game... stuff like that. I spent a good few days hoarding 1*s, because I'm like that.

I'm somewhat ashamed to say that I have not experienced the grind, being lucky enough to jump from 2* noob to 3-4* noob within 2-3days or something (but about a week after I started). I met a few nice friends and all, and got to enter FSC as early as within 2 weeks of starting.

I was such a noob back then, and can't remember much anymore, but yadayada and voila, I joined Impervious, made friends, learnt more about the game, tried Lockdown/Blast Network for my first time(s), and so forth.

Fast forward to today, I am now a full fledged 5* player with at least a few decent armor sets, 13/17 of the 5* guns, 14/20 of the 5* swords and 10/18 5* bombs (I don't really care much for armor and shields yet), and have experienced most everything the game has to offer already.

------------------------------
Pros:
Graphics. The art style is pretty amazing, with a balance of cool (Sudaruska. Nuff said), cute (Dem mewkats and tailed helms!) and awesome (Just the whole clockworks in general).
Gameplay. The whole charge attack, hack n slash dungeon crawler genre is one of the most unique things that I have not found another game with similar elements together. Overall it can be pretty fun- just ignore the unbalanced things, though.
Versatility. There's definitely "laid out" "classes" as Hall of Heroes demonstrate, but that doesn't prevent a Skolver set swordsman from carrying around an Electron Vortex to aid in controlling crowds. Lockdown classes restrict you a bit, but you certainly don't see Striker Bombers or Guardian Gunners being hampered when they know what they are doing.
Soundtrack. It's so beautifully fitting.
Some compensation for high ping players. If you don't notice, certain areas and traps are still possible to get through with 500ms ping without requiring estimation of when it would go down and move. However, a low pinger who doesn't need to guess can get through the same area faster without getting hit. Also various nerfs to enemies, although some were ridiculously overdone.

Cons:
Grinding. This is natural for games- Pretty much almost every game, in fact, that requires upgrading to progress and so forth. Add to that the fact that Energy prices are based on end game players' ability to get 7k cr from FSC, and newbies are gonna quit before they even get to IMF without dedication.
Missions. What used to be a game based on exploring is now one of the many other games that has a storyline-based gameplay. Add to that how Hall of Heroes basically force you to get higher tier gear to advance and the excessive grinding... I give up on this.
Balance. The damage system is partially broken, in my opinion- One using a Callahan against slimes would fail terribly, yet the very same mechanic without the consequences of the wrong damage type- the Iron Slug- makes Magnus-style lines viable on slimes. Then you have very obvious ones- Why should I go for Azure Guardian when its extra defense is almost negligible compared to the buffs Skolver/Justifier gives? Azure Guardian doesn't even have any status resist and is completely unviable against end game boss dungeons such as Firestorm Citadel where majority of enemies deal fire, shadow and/or elemental damage. It defeats the purpose of being an all rounders' armor. Then you have Normal damage swords versus split damage swords- A leviathan blade does less to jellies than a Voltedge that doesn't even score criticals against slimes? That's just silly. And silly is an understatement.
Energy system. Currently, without trading or buying CE, you can not advance past 2*. It defeats the point of being a "Free to Play" game, but rather, it is but a Free Demo.
Lack of challenge. Aside from gear imbalance, their current idea of "difficulty" is to give enemies increased health and damage to ridiculous levels. If proto sword dealt more damage, I could just as easily use it to kill Royal Jelly as I would with an Acheron.
Severe disparity between high and low ping players. The various nerfs to aid high ping players killed difficulty for low ping players as well as experienced high ping players. Then there's Lockdown...

Score:
Gameplay: 8/10 (Irritating at times for high ping players)
Graphics: 8/10 (Cloaks and Gunslinger sashes don't even have visible bodies, just arms and legs and the overall cloak)
Story and Lore: The idea behind it is great. 4/5. The execution could have been better, though. 3/5 (7/10 total)
Soundtrack and Music: 10/10. It's amazing.
Creativity: 9/10. Who would think of an ionized salt bomb?
Balancing: Downright terrible. 4/10.
Items: Decent variety, and at least 90% of their weapon styles are all viable and easy to use. 9/10.
Total: 55/70

The next patch is going to change A LOT of these things, but I guess I, and us in general, shall leave this here for the sake of remembering what it used to be.

(1) BLANK

(2) 1. Several weapons to choose from, including the Cautery Sword, Heavy Decon, and the Iron Slug.
2. GREAT music
3. Plenty of non-official forum moderators
4. PvP
5. No magic or dragons (excluding chromas because they don't really count)
6. Free (if you chose to grind)
7. Currency system that can be traded for Steam items or games
8. Free speak chat (lets you say gyuhfyghisdfwigfysdgfusjygffyadgrkufygskdufygbafgkfaqyuosfgydv)
9. Friends and guilds
10. Accessories
(2.1-after update)
1. Battle Sprites
2. Infinite exploration
3. No more random 3*s in FSC

(3) 1. Too many alts
2. Going from 3*-4* and 4*-5* and 5*-PvP elitist
3. lag
4. Beggars (like always)
5. lag
6. lag
7. lag
8. Damage/Attack Speed is better then extra defense
(3.1-after update)
1. CE inflation
2. FSC can't be accessed w/o full 5* set
3. No point to going in parties
4. MOAR LAG THEN EVER BEFORE!!!!!

(4) T1=8/10-Allows beginners to feel the game and to know to attack and find strategies, no need to farm.
T2=3/10-Less heart drops then T3 and the farming begins here.
T3=7/10-You can now afford accessories and Triple-UV your awesome stuff, with $ or farming, but noticeably less then going from T2 to T3.
Avg. 18/30=6/10

(5) 10/10 on high/med, 8/10 on ow for not being low. 9/10

(6) 10/10-Without repeating missions, everything makes sense. I just looked at the lore from Stratum 6 and got how it went from just seeing darkness and fire to knowing the source. Not including how much Missions break the Arcade.

(7) 10/10-Gonna download all the SK music on my phone before anything else. Very catchy.

(8) 9.5/10- The Ban Stick and Ash of Agni are the only references, and OOO went to the trouble to make a long list of triangles (sword gun bomb, fire freeze shock, shadow pierce elemental, CTR DMG ASI, Primal Forge Grim, T1 T2 T3, Final Flourish Fearless Rigadoon Furious Flamberge, Mercurial Royal Ice, Polyp Howlitzer Gun Pup, Leviathan Lionheart Scissors, Super Stun Gun Frost Gun Zapper, Blitz Plague VP, Beast Basher Slime Slasher Robo Wrecker, Troika (meaning set of three), Grintovec Jalovec Triglav, Volcanic Salamander Deadly Virluisk Arcane Salamander, Driftwood Redwood Ironwood, Gremlin Gizmo Force Dynamo Silver Coil, Iron Gear Heavy Gear Rocket Sprocket, Monster Bone Blighted Bone Reaper Rib, Seerus fragments), characters, and weapon ideas. I want a few more shields, though.

(9) 6/10- Offensive bonuses are almost always better than defensive bonuses. FIX!!!

(10) 9.5/10- Plenty, but shields are lacking in amount, mostly limited to GOS, BTS, and CoA.

Total: 54/70 (~77%)

1. Paragraph: Good game with lots of potential. Fun to play casually, although mission grinding isn't as fun. Small dev team, low content, low playerbase. Interesting gameplay mechanics, nice energy system. Gameplay mechanics make team playing very fun and viable. Grinding missions with a good team is actually fun.
2. Pros: Great energy system, Simple, Friendly community (for the most part), easy to pick up, very casual
3. Cons: Dev team doesn't like talking
4. Gameplay Score: 8 - This is one of the funnest games I have ever played, and I stuck to it for over 2 years, with over 100 days of playtime. No matter what, I kept coming back to this game
5. Graphics Score: 8 - Cartoon ish design, nice feeling for a casual game.
6. Story & Lore Score: 2 - No storyline besides "you crashed on cradle, get to the core". More missions like Arkus that has storyline PLOX.
7. Soundtrack and Music Score: 2 - annoying after 1 hour of playing
8. Creativity: 10 - Very original game. Never seen anything like it
9. Balancing: -2 - everything is unbalanced. The only viable damage bomb (rss) was nerfed to the ground. Swords are spammable and do insane damage, most guns aren't useful, but Blitz is nicknamed "death cannon". Yeah that doesn't seem balanced to me.
10. Items: 5 - Interesting items with funny descriptions. Not nuff items
11. Total: Do your math

1. 2 lazy.
2. Pros: (Required)

-Differs from other RPG, no [stuff] like "agility, strength, endurance"...
-Skill level is still an important factor...
-Gear variety...
-Teamwork is possible...
-Community...
-Content...
-PvP...
-Art

3. Cons: (Required)

-...but the new UI patch and icons
-...but monsters are nerfed.
-...but no one wants to try something new and just go for armor with offensive bonuses, easy to use and OP weapons.
-...but every1 wnts 2 do gud dmg
-...but it is going downhill.
-...but people just replay missions, hopefully new update will be the solution for it.
-...but UVs and trinkets. (A reason to play BN, where the only factor brings unbalance is connection. I suspect SS Bucklers help players drop bombs faster, though)

4. Gameplay Score: 8/10
5. Graphics Score: 9/10
6. Story & Lore Score: 6/10
7. Soundtrack and Music Score: 8/10
8. Creativity: 10/10
9. Balancing: 4/10, but that's just because no one thinks they need good defense. I heard C42 can be done much easily with a specific Chromalisk Set (forgot the name). Instead, they just go for armor with offensive bonuses so they can have an excuse to use it everywhere. That includes myself, good thing elemental is common.

Same goes for weapons, I find Troika line to be quite effective despite having no special damage, yet it is too underused.
