I was wondering how crowns will be distributed after the patch next week. Will only the person who picks up the crowns get them, and none of the other party members can get them? Or does every party member have to pick up each cr themself, but everyone has a chance to get them?

Every party member picks up their own, and everyone gets what they pick up. However, not everyone sees the same mats and vials. This means if you open a treasure box with 50 cr and 1 mat, each person sees and gets their own cr but sees a different mat. Under the old/current system, the box held 50 cr and 4 mats.
...At least, that's my understanding.

@Klipik No, the one mat from the treasure box is distributed randomly to one party member only in the current system. Unless of course you solo at the treasure boxes before they are opened (loot disappears on solo or kick), but you'll end up with different contents anyway.
I'm not sure about the future system.

Under the current system, the box holds one material, which is randomly distributed to one of the party members, as Qwao said. You can see this happen, as you pick up a material and it goes to someone else in the party, or vice-versa. Read the wiki article "Party" (which will need to be massively rewritten after the update).
