This is a potentially serious issue for single-player games. The Trojan monster can trap you in a corner (possibly by using his charge attack when you are in the corner for some other reason. At this point...
- You can't escape to either side (or, indeed, move at all), because the trojan is large enough to keep you pinned in.
- The trojan will always be facing you, because with only one target, their AI has them always attempt to face that target.
- The Trojan will not move away, because their AI never moves away.
- You can't harm the foe, because trojans are immune to damage in the front, and it's always going to be facing you.
- You can't shield bash the beast, because it's big enough that it essentially does not shield bash.
Essentially, then, the only thing you can do is die, and wait for it to wander away from your corpse before energy-rezzing. It doesn't matter how much life you have, or how good your gear is. If the Trojan catches you in the corner and your soloing, you're dead (eventually).
This seems poor.
Caveats:
- it is possible that other monsters might be able to interfere with the Trojan enough to let you out. In my case, the Trojan was the last monster left in the area.
- it is possible that a mecha-knight consumable could have saved me. I didn't have one on me at the time.
- it is possible that other shields might have been able to effect the shield bash. I was using a swiftstrike buckler in the top half of tier 2.
- it is possible that other weapons might have given sufficient knockback to escape. I was using a vile striker and a tier 2 shock alchemer - again, in the upper half of tier 2.
Regardless of those caveats, this seems a poor result, and not in keeping with the way the rest of the game behaves - where you can certainly get yourself killed, but there are no situations that are both completely inescapable and not quickly lethal - particularly not at full health with good equipment for the tier.
This happened to me and I was playing in a full party. I was lucky enough to have those team mates to revive me though.
