If you notice CE is just like gasoline we have to pay for it to run it (except theres no mist gasoline cause we are all going to die breathing it)
gasoline price has raised pretty high
CE has SKYROCKETED
if you goto a another city it'll probably cost 20-45$!
if you want to 7500CE its about 20 and it goes out fast depending on how you use it.
they are pretty much the same...

Most people don't have to pay
Most people don't have to pay for their life. As well, you aren't paying for life directly, you pay for other things. So in Real Life (tm) you're grinding for the equivalent of crowns in Spiral Knights to buy the equivalent of recipes and gear. >)
Gasoline is not a good analogy for CE, since there are alternative energy sources such as diesel (bio or otherwise), ethanlol, electric, and hydrogen fuel cells (essentially fancy electric). There is only one choice for us, CE.
CE also only changes its crown price, its actual purchase value with real money never changes. So it's like paying for gas with BitCoins, only you can't right now.
