Why doesn't Maskerwraith's primary attack break objects?

It's come to my attention, and I'm sure some other's, that Maskerwraith's primary needle attack doesn't break things like Boxes, Mineral Crystals, shrubs, etc, nor even seem to affect them.
I wouldn't mind this so much, except that both Seraphynx and Drakon's primary attacks easily interact with objects.
What's the deal with this?

EDIT: Retitled topic name to better specify.

Hm

Probably because it does no direct damage. Although they should definitely still make it break stuff.

The needles pretty much have the same properties as catalyzer charges. Those don't break blocks either.

Nondamaging projectiles don't break blocks. To break a block it must do damage, however minor.
