So far from my experience, the skill gives absolute invincibility for a few seconds, so what does further increasing defence do?.
What does increasing the 'protection' upgrade for seraphynx's 3rd skill do?

The shield has a life. More protection = can take more attacks.
You aren't completely invincible, you have to find a strong enough group of enemies. It's similar to guardians in LD.

The shield can break, and very easily, too.

Do you have a seraphynx? Can you test if different harnesses affect how many attacks it can take from a certain element?
I have no idea.
