I was playing legion of almire on elite, and sometimes almirian crusaders dropped crimsonite as a pickup item. I know 100% that the almirian crusader dropped crimsonite, and it said in the chatbox: "Buzzshadow obtained mineral (crimsonite)" is this supposed to happen? I know the drop system got changed but...
so... monsters drop minerals now?

Thats kind of... unexpected. I mean, the point of minerals is to be like they are, from.. the crystals... so..
Of course, the whole thing is kind of off. If the minerals are used as materials, why aren't they just materials?

Quite so. One gets the sense that Three Rings wanted to increase the importance of minerals in the game, and cast about for some way to do it. They settled on bottlenecking the entire sprite process at minerals.
I'm not a big fan of bottlenecks in general, but I kind of like this one. When Spiral Knights launched, the NPCs made it seem as if gathering minerals was our top priority on Cradle. However, players lost interest in influencing gates, and dismissed the modest payouts from depositing minerals. I often found myself in parties where knights didn't bother to pick up any minerals. But now, finally, minerals are really our top priority.

I kind of think they should change the battle sprite crafting machine to something more like the "material enahancement machine" or something like that to seperate it from crafting.

I found a bunch of purple mineral drops in White Collar Captives (fiend prestige).
Does anyone know where yellow drops?

see the guy at the right side of the arcade to see where luminite can drop. there are various combination of minerals that get a specific monster, you must follow that one.
for example, drakon users like me should prefer gremlin, beast, fiend and fire places. especially gremlin for deconstruction zones.

I'm not sure if the guy at the arcade explaining minerals will help. I think only specific monsters drop minerals. I did heart of ice. no luck, but legion of almire did have their own monster: almirian crusaders. heart of ice had regular monsters. maybe we might find something in compound 42.

That is so wrong in almost every way o.o
The arcade NPC you're referring to shows the combinations of minerals that create the specific families and statuses. Ideally, those who are looking a specific mineral (let's use Crimsonite as an example) should avoid Gremlin, Best, Fiend, and Fire strata because those mobs are much less likely to have mineral deposits of Crimsonite.
Yup, they loot.
I noticed only Crimsonite, also on LoA. Seems pretty unbalanced (Very good i have Drakon :D), looks it's not so bad idea, when including battle sprites, but i liked more 'old' system... more... climatic?
