I've only started playing today, and I'm enjoying the game so far. However I'm curious if gear is the only thing that separates me from someone else. I'm mostly asking if there are any kind of classes, or specializations that other RPGs have.
I've only now completed the tutorial training places, so I want to know more about the game before continuing
Playstyle
To be a bit more specific into "classes":
Weaponry:
- Slow
- Medium
- Fast
That's basically always the 3 sorts of weapons you can get for every weapon type. (Sword, Gun, Bomb) They all offer different game-play, since they all got their advantages and disadvantages. It's really up to you to explore all types and figure out which one fits you best.
Armor/Shield:
- Specialised gear for a weapon class (e.g. Demo suit > Bomb charge time reduction)
- Universally offering a buff of some type (e.g. Vitasuit > Extra health bonus)
- Defensive values-oriented armor, which offer the highest defense against certain types of damage
Although for armor I'd say balancing is still way off.
That's about all there is to gear that affects your game-play I think. You can always freely swap between gears, so there's not really any type of bonding to a certain type of game-play if you'd make choice A over B. Maybe someday a system that allows knight specialisation could be implemented though, but that's all up to the devs whether they would like that in their game or not :P It's still closed-beta anyway, content is still being made at large!
Your character can play in any style you choose, so long as you have the right gear for that style. But due to the limited number of weapon and armor slots, you can't combine the best of all specialties at the same time on the same character. (...unless you buy a ton of trinket and weapon slots, but trinkets are broken right now)
For example, the people I normally adventure with prefer high damage weapons with high damage and knockback. I try to support them by specializing in swords/guns/bombs that inflict status ailments (but less damage)- that weakens enemies so that my partymates can swoop in for the kill without fear of a deadly counterattack. Because I dodge a lot and hang back, my armor focuses on valuable damage/speed bonuses, rather than providing the best protection against being hit.
>Implying there are classes
Haha.
Have fun with the game~
There's no class.... and if you are talking about play style then it would be Not Get Hit style.
As you can see things are pretty straight forward and simple here, just get used to the mobs and stages and you would do fine.
