Auction house is the ONLY

Auction house is the ONLY redeeming factor at all.

Can't trade 4* and 5* items? Fail.
Higher CE cost for crafting? Fail.
No more basil invites? Fail.
Less expensive recipes? Hahahahaha, did you really think that would balance this out?
Ah yes, and the "advanced" training hall. Epic fail. Call it what it is, "Noob Preschool".

In less than an hour, the cost of CE has risen by close to 500 crowns since this update. The real driving force behind it? For player satisfaction? BS. It's obviously to make more money.

The Update

You can't trade most high-end gear in other games so why should this one be any different. Sorry you have to work for your gear instead of buying your way through it.
True, the higher CE costs does bite, but on a company that's not charging you monthly fee to play their game, a little sweat is gonna have to be spilt.
Also, the CE market fluctuates constantly through out the day, it's already back down to 4.9k.

The increased CE cost on

The increased CE cost on crafting is going to ruin you guys....

It's a joke to call it a F2P game, it's free until you need gear over 3*.... That's not a F2P game, that's a demo.

Stopping people from selling

Stopping people from selling 4-5 Star gear is awesome, and imo should include 3 star.

But the increase in Energy cost for recipes is pretty brutal. I was hoping they'd remove the energy cost completely from lower star gear and just increase the crown cost... that way at least crafting wasn't so completely reliant on the energy market.

At 5000 crowns per 100 energy, making a 2-star piece costs at least 2900 crowns, and a 3-star costs 11000 now. The higher the energy cost goes, the more and more crafting is going to be penalizing.

Sorry for the very brief OP.

Sorry for the very brief OP. I thought about giving constructive criticism then realised that everything they did wrong was something they received extensive suggestions for in this forum long before the update and which any of their more experienced colleagues at three rings should've been able to point out the flaws in if they'd only been consulted. Someone on the spiral knights team, probably nick, thinks he knows better than anyone else.

One good thing has come of this update: I'm working through my reading list faster now.

Trade 4*-5* Equipment

I play with a friend, we both do everything together, I get the recipes and make 2 of everything for both of us, it saves on both of us having to buy the recipes but now that 4* and 5* equipment will always be bound to the player, we can’t do that... it takes out the social aspect of the game, Now i can’t play with my friend if i have better equipment. Or i have to wait until they can also get all the recipes and material required. It’s a really bad idea to do that.

I should be able to use their items to craft from the trade window or something so that I can still upgrade their stuff, or even just allow trading of 4* and 5* equipment but not the use of it "This item is bound to someone else and can’t be used." I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to add that message.

Works for me.

I'm in the same situation as Runeologic, but I like the changes. The old system was really weird, since we could use 4☆/5☆ recipes to upgrade each others' gear, but it was really convoluted and only worked if we were jumping at least two ranks. For example, in order for me to get a 4☆ Hunting Blade from his recipe, I had start out with the 2☆ Cutter, upgrade it, give it to him, have him equip it and level it up to level 5, upgrade it, and give it back. I couldn't just have him upgrade my 3☆ gear. The new system is much cleaner; we have to get two copies of recipes now, but that's fine. Harder? Yes. A problem? Not at all, at least for us. The challenge feels more like Spiral Knights than some odd logic puzzle like recipe sharing did.

The other path would have been to allow greater recipe sharing by either allowing people to upgrade other peoples' bound items through a joint alchemy option or to allow more freedom in unbinding. I think the additional restrictions improve gameplay overall, however, especially since high-level gear is like high-level classes in other games. It was rather odd that I could jump straight from beginner to high-tier if I had a helpful friend with some gear to spare. It may take a bit of time for people to get used to the changes, though.

All those glitches and bugs the patch caused is also worth reflecting on.

Ugh.

Honestly, I still don't see why there is this huge outcry and mass disapproval regarding the update. Yes, CE costs for crafting were raised significantly, but has anyone actually stopped to do the math? No? Well, let's see here, shall we?

Previous cost of 5* recipes: 45,000 crowns
New cost of 5* recipes: 25,000 crowns
Difference: 20,000 crown decrease
**At the current exchange rate of 5k crowns per 100 CE, this translates to an equivalent savings of 400 CE.

Previous CE cost of crafting 5* items: 300 CE
New cost of crafting 5* items: 800 CE
Difference: 500 CE increase

Taking the increase in CE cost - new savings from recipe purchases, we get... (*drumroll*)
**A total net increase of 100 CE for the cost of crafting 5* equipment.
(By the way, these calculations work out to be a 100 CE increase for 4* equips as well.)

Now, granted, this 100 CE increase is additive, meaning since it costs 100 extra CE for each piece of equipment crafted, a full set of 5* equipment (weapon, helm, armor, shield) will cost at least 400 extra CE.

The ONLY significant impact this change has is that now upper-tier equipment is much, MUCH more influenced by the CE market.

Nevertheless, I still think people need to stop it with the mass hysterics, claiming that Three Rings "ruined" the game or whatever.

TL;DR: Crafting 4* and 5* equips became a mere 100 CE more expensive per piece.

Increased Crafting Energy cost blows

I have to agree with a lot of these points. I've basically been shafted with the short end of the stick now since I was just about to upgrade some of my gear from 3 star to 4 star, now they've basically hit me for the full OLD cost of the recipes and gone ahead and TRIPLED the amount of CE I have to spend to do it. I already found it frustrating that Crafting 3* and up items basically ate through your entire Mist Energy tank and then chomped right into your precious crystal energy, but I understand that the guys at 3 Rings need to eat too. What I don't understand is the NEED for these CE increases, they're already removing the ability to sell 4-5* gear and crafting energy costs were already quite noticeable to begin with. Creating 4-5* gear REQUIRED someone to buy Crystal Energy at some point and even beginning to access Tier 3 dungeons requires a FULL SET of 4* items. It just seems like this update is geared to make reaching 3rd tier prohibitively expensive for new players.

TL;DR version:
Auction House = awesome
Training Hall = nice for new players, useless afterward.
No Basil Invites = I'm okay with this.
Can't trade 4-5* items = kind of a let-down since my guild would actively craft items for each other, but understandable.
Reduced recipe costs = Helps make up for not being able to trade items anymore, but sucks for everyone who already bought 4-5* recipes.
DOUBLED CE cost for crafting = What the hell? That's incredibly extreme and totally unnecessary.

I thought the Rose Regalia promotion was a good way to promote sales. It basically rewarded paying players with a little something extra and allowed players to play more for paying more. This new update basically forces us to play less for the same cost as before and punishes players who enjoy collecting different weapons/armor (ultimately the only collectible in the game at the moment).
