The old health bar made Spiral Knights more fun. The new bar is loaded with info and a picture of my knight. I already know how my knight looks like, so I don't need a picture! The new shield bar looks lame. Predicting shield health was more challenging and fun. The old way the bar and status effects were arranged made me want to play. (Making the texture look futuristic is cool though.) Seeing a single health point split in half is cool. The new teammate health bar looks so lame. Is this becoming Monkey Quest? Just retexture the old teammate bar to look futuristic. Seriously?
SK was special before and now it is like I'm playing some regular, cheap MMO.

P.S. Please don't ban me for calling the game cheap.

What Am I Voting On?

The old health bar was also in a good spot—which is to say that I could see it while also looking at my knight.
Yes, the old UI was wonderful. We all miss it Spinex.

Vote on either Old or New Life meter.

The old bar was good enough on T1-T2, but when reaching absurds amounts of health (ancient set, heart pendants, 10+ vitapods) it was a mess. Particulary for your teammates. You would only notice if they were about to die.

The new design fails too, but the old one needed an update.

As for the old teammate bar............. make each HP point smaller and closer if the health gets to big.

I liked the old hp bar, messy or not

It worked out fine for me, and looking at teammates hp hasn't been a huge problem. Now, I have no idea if they have pods or not. Actually, I don't need to care anymore since its all instanced....

Once you see damage on them, that means they got less than 20 pips, which is enough to take a few more hits. And honestly, nobody is going to stand in the middle of a battle and tell them to pick up the capsule that you dropped for them.

Actually, you can't do that anymore either.

Umm

There was a picture of your knight in the old UI too. Do some people just not remember that?

The location is what really

The location is what really kills me. Not that fond of anything else about the UI either, but in the top left I can't even see my health 99% of the time. Ah well, grown to accept that it won't be changing anyways.

You're kinda several months late to the party.
Anyways, I've gotten used to the new UI. I'd still prefer the old one, but it's not too bad.
But I want to be able to drop my f***ing items.

Incidentally, I love how they had to make the red screen effect to compensate for the currently existing health meter being so big that you basically block it out like if it was an Internet ad. With the old UI I would only monitor my health looking at the party health bars. The big, blobby thing at the bottom told me nothing.

Another thing about the new

Another thing about the new health bar is that it stacks on top of each other with a grey/silver bar after you go past the maximum red pips.

Which means you can't really tell how many pips you're missing. Unless you are good at math and remember your health bonuses.

Why would you ever need to know how many pips you are missing when you could just look at the percentage and estimate how much health you still need before full? Oh wait a minute, it's percentage...

Except if I'm not always near full health I'm probably average 30-50% hp before my death, so it's not like I care anyway.

The health change probably

The health change probably fixed some problems the old health bars had. Probably

And then new update made the fixes essentially useless, because the problems wouldn't be a factor with the anti party play system in place.

To Owlert.

Please point at the picture of my Knight that you claim is there:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=65395662

(I hope you do not mean the picture of party members that was there in PvE and PvP. Which is not the same.)

I don't like most of the new UI. Main problems:

Arsenal blocks minimap; only arsenal shows my crowns, and is open at all times when opening AH. (I want E and Cr on the screen at all times. I also want to be able to look at the minimap at all times, at least by switching to another tab in the AH.)

Activities window pops open even though I closed it, just because I change location. And it's beneath Arsenal.

The things that slide in and out at the bottom corners, I liked the permanent ones at the top corners.

I can not tell how many HP my party members have. Proto looks the same as Ancient, so I can't remind a forgetful friend to put on other armour if they've just done T2 LD (for example).

Did they do something about those huge party member pictures blocking chat in LD yet?

I can't tell the order at which people joined the party.

What IS the point of the huge honking picture of myself in the top left corner?

The image also shows another thing I miss dearly; colourful names!

Get rid of the mini portrait, keep the health bars. (Maybe add some sort of colored border to indicate what your max health is when you have silver/gold bars.) I didn't like the look of the old health bars. Their positioning on the screen was better, yes, but it looked like a bunch of poorly drawn MS Paint lines scrunched up together. The look of the new bar is sleeker, but still needs improvement.

The shield bar is a nice addition. It could have been implemented better, but it's a step in the right direction. A game should never hide vital information from you in the thick of the action, so seeing exactly how much your shield can take, rather than guesstimating from a colored bubble. The graphics used for the shield health bar could use some tweaks.

All in all, I would prefer if the health bars would go back to being in the ideal point of view, the center of the screen, but I prefer the appearance of the new bars over the old.

A lot to say

@Grimranger

I'm an old legend in the present. I took a break for several months. I miss sharing items with friends in need.

@Traevelliath

It's like I can't fight against the power of the future. So Adapt?

@Mickmane

The color for your knight is like nothing now with the new teammate bar.

@Juances

At least you're still around. Don't leave me with new people that don't know SK History and don't take lessons!

@Nick's Spiral Crew

Why did you do this! I miss the old players, HUD, and play style! (Free to explore is nice though.) Why Nick! Why!
