Me and my girlfriend have started playing this game and mainly only communicate with each other in game. When we aren't in the same location it's very annoying to have to type /tell every single time you want to talk to the person. In most mmo's I have played, if you type /tell "persons name here", then every time you hit enter to type it automatically puts the "/tell" bit. This way you don't have to type it everytime you talk to that person. This way if you want to talk normally you can just backspace the "/tell" bit out of the textbox. Hope I explained this well enough for you to understand I'm not good at explaining things like this lol. Thanks!
Adjustment on the "Tell" chat feature.
Another way to do it is to start typing and press the Up arrow, this will automaticly insert "/tell personsname" of the last person to send a message too you via the tell system. Its not really explained in the game, I had the same problem when first starting, if you look on the wiki there is more information about chat commands in there though these elements should really be explained in game instead of having to go to somewhere different.
I would like to add that although one can answer the _last_ person that sent a tell, I would like to see a mechanic that would allow one to select to whom to reply. In WoW this can be done by using 'r' and then using TAB to cycle through the different players that have whispered you or sent you a tell.
I really miss that feature because after 3 people or more I sometimes lose track who sent me something or what his or her name was. Also retyping the names everytime is tedious and is prone to mistakes.
"r" to start a response is good. /r command is one of the worst concepts in chat I've seen, since it completely changes meaning if you receive a new tell between the time you start and finish typing your message. Up arrow to select the last or other recent commands (including tells) is great, except that it seems to forget people sometimes on Spiral Knights. It would also be more useful if incoming tells would automatically insert tell commands into this list, since "r" to start a response doesn't work if you get tells from more than one person. I'm a bit surprised at how clunky this is, given how brilliantly clean and functional the chat interface in Puzzle Pirates is.
Thanks for the help. Didn't know about hte "r" thing or the "up arrow" thing. Appreciate it. : )
Press "r" to start a response or use the "/r" command to respond to the most recent person who sent you a tell.
