Why are 2* Heat Crystals so common?

I mean. Does anybody actually take the time to heat up a piece of 2* equipment, when they could upgrade it directly to 3* with no fuss?

Well newbs are not going to instantly skip to 3*. Newbs in newbies, newcomers. So they gotta do something with those heat they get...

It all depends on what Depth

It all depends on what Depth you're in. Stratum 6 gives 5* Fire crystals, stratum 5 gives 4* crystals, stratum 4 gives 3*, etc.
