Which Drakon skill to focus on..

My drakon is level 22. I have not spent a single skill point so far, because I want it specifically for 1 skill. I am having trouble deciding that one skill.
The fireball is a bit weak and I am a gunner, which reduces its use even further
The barrier is extremely useful only for status levels
Lastly I do not even know if firestorm is even worth investing into.

So a few things about me and my playstyle..
I am a gunslinger that enjoys charge shots
I suck at evasion, and excel better then most at dying
I also like to speed run a lot, trying to avoid enemies by just running through them.

So which drakon skills to focus on..?
Only ultimates that appeal to me is the backfire barrier (or whatever that increases run speed) and both firestorms... (sounds interesting, but spiral knights has a habit of over exaggeration in their description)

You are going to get enough skill points to max all of your skills way before you get to level 90 (where you can choose your first ultimate), so which one you choose to max first really doesn't matter very much. Based on your description, however, I would start with flame barrier--remember that it grants a def boost in addition to the orbs/chance to cause fire.

Drakon isn't exactly a "swordie" pet. Flame Barrier is just one of his abilities, not his only one.

As a gunslinger I truly don't think Drakon makes much sense.
If you suck at evasion then I'm assuming you're probably standing far away spamming bullets and running away or doing it wrong.
If you are speedrunning you can do it with a Seraphynx among other things, that shield is a lot better at saving yourself.

Though now that you have chosen Drakon...

As a gunslinger you should be always be at range so don't focus on Firebolt. Flame barrier is good to max out first, since you apparently like getting close to enemies.

Then you can upgrade Firestorm once you get it at level 50. You might want Frenzied Firestorm in the future to complement your playstyle.

Get concussive firebolt, stun should be useful.

Backfire Barrier's speedboost lasts for a very short amount of time and in my opinion would barely affect gameplay.

@Neodasus Drakon can also be a bomber's best friend.
