Anyone else have a glitch with the Blackhawk/Silversix lines?

I noticed this today with my newly crafted Blackhawk. It wasn't doing critical damage to anything... I shot at every type of monster, and it either showed up as weakened damage or as normal damage. The weakened damage was also a bit weird in that it wasn't all too weak. The Blackhawk is supposed to do additional damage to gremlins and beasts, but I was scoring regular numbers there. Is this actually the critical damage that I'm supposed to do just not highlighted or is the game not sensing the attributes correctly?

If other people have noticed this issue I'm thinking of putting a thread about it into the bug reports section.

It's probably a display bug.

It's probably a display bug. Earlier my Peacemaker was doing what seem to be normal damage ( 55s) to gun puppies, however, i did another run and it displayed grey numbers while doing the same damage.

hmm ok

@ xPlad
No it's not the split damage. Beasts and gremlins are 100% weak to the blackhawk so they should've showed increased damage numbers.

@ iNChecK
Thanks for the testimony.

I'll want more b4 I make the thread though, anyone else notice anything funny with these guns?

Beasts and Gremlins will take

Beasts and Gremlins will take extra damage but the game is bugged in that the color of damage text will not reliably reflect that you're doing bonus damage.

Collective observations

Dual damage-types makes your damage more "balanced";
super-effective hits won't score as much bonus damage, but resisted hits won't be reduced as much.

Antigua lines in general deal relatively low damage for guns anyway, so the dual-typing with damage scaling won't make it strong enough to see "crits" until the latter of Tier 3.

Just the gray numbers

I am just getting the gray numbers on anything I shoot at. Are we sure it is a bug? because it is only on this gun. My fiery pepperbox and my final flourish sword show the larger yellow numbers. Anyway hope that helps, just gray on the blackhawk I'm afraid

The reason you notice most

The reason you notice most your numbers being gray is because of the dual damage type of the Blackhawk. Blackhawk = piercing and shadow. Any enemy that has high defense vs any of these means gray damage. Even if an enemy is weak to piercing but strong to shadow, or vice versa, will still be gray because damage penalties overshadow damage bonuses by a very large margin.

Using a Faust in the Royal

Using a Faust in the Royal Palace against the mini jellies, I would get critical coloring on the first hit and normal coloring on the second hit. I tried many times to get screenshots of it, but really hard to time it right. The first hit was doing less damage than the second hit even, but it was the one that showed up as critical. The mini jellies aren't even supposed to be very weak to shadow like the normal jellies.

So I think that the formula used to determine the coloring is complicated. Might be some mix of hit magnitude and damage sensitivity. Once the result is over some threshold it'll turn critical colored. Which means that you might be doing "critical-level" damage but the color just doesn't change because the ratio of damage types isn't quite right to trigger the effect.

This has happened a number of times with other monsters and weapons but I don't think I've ever seen this problem with single damage type weapons like the flourish or the haze bomb line.

Short story; the game doesn't

Short story; the game doesn't properly display the damage type (blue, yellow, grey) of dual damage types (not including normal).

Long story; T3 Gremlins take yellow damage, but T2 do not, they still take blue, but I can testify it is still doing the super-effective damage. And in case where the damage should be neutral, it will show up grey, it's just a bug with the display. You can post a bug report if you like, but seeing as the gun still performs as it should, the actual chances of them dealing with it is low, I mean I submitted three separate bug reports about my Sentenza having less range than my Blackhawk and I didn't get so much as an "oh?".

@Espeonage, dunno where you're getting that from they do damage on par with an alchemer of the same type, and do relatively more damage on mobs neutral or strong against the gun. They're also the most mobile, etc.

Mobility and whatnot is unrelated though, of course.

Anyway, that's why I said they're collective observations; they're based on what several other players, friends and I have noticed throughout our careers (lol). On the flipside though, I haven't used any other guns since the official release, so I'm not keen on the damage now.

And yes, I did mention that resisted hits won't be as reduced.

Mmm for clarity, what I meant

Mmm for clarity, what I meant was, Alchemers damage only keeps up with a Setenza/Argent, when they're both hitting targets they're strong against, and from my observation, Alchemers only pull through on large groups due to the bounce (zombies, etc.). On that note though I don't have a decent CTR Alchemer. My claim about resists was a general observation not related to your comment.

In short, I think it's a conceptual issue, people 'feel' the Argent and Sentenza because of their design, S.S swords are awesome, etc. and should do more damage, but really they're on par with everything else and probably the most well rounded guns (everything included). I think it's an issue with guns in general, they do such a significant amount less than swords they feel weak majority of the time.
