I was wandering around Tier 2 to get an important recipe from Basil, when I saw this strange rock in a Wolver's Den at Depth 9.

After checking around the wiki, I noticed it looked almost exactly like the removed Tortodrone.

So, is this a dead Tortodrone? Does it still exist in the Spiral Knights universe? Does it have a purpose?
All these questions flew in my mind when discovering this.
If anyone have any theories or know anything else about this, please comment below.

They've become awfully common. More than every other scenario room combined, lol.

Eventually yes , I think

Eventually yes , I think they're teasing us with this new scenario room that it's coming soon. But hey , it's OOO we're talking about here , so we can't expect anything.

@Juances

Perhaps one could speculate about the cause of this!

I wonder

I wonder if the artifact in the Haven Lab is a device that will reactivate the Tortodrones.

Remember, the Tortodrone

Remember, the Tortodrone comment was made about a year ago, back when Three Rings actually responded to its playerbase. They're probably working on something else. Like more sprites, or another CE sink.

Yep.

~According to the developers, the Tortodrone will return in a future update. It is unknown what changes will be made, but some believe that he will have a new appearance.
~Various Scenario Rooms feature dead (or sleeping) Tortodrones

Also would like to add that I saw a re-textured Tortodone in a recently updated client, and while it has a resemblance to the darkfire style of Vana, which means it has a sinister look so it seems like a more so corrupted tortodone with purple cracks in its skin, so chances are they are working on it, but of course they've been occupied with other ideas, none of which I like.

EDIT: I only saw this in the games files via Spiral Spy, not implemented yet in the actual game.

OOO responds to the playerbase all the time when they are responding to the playerbase.

And they're trying to do things like develop the iron slug into a better weapon, but they can't because they refuse to "just buff it". Like, all the players who care about balance want is for the slug to be usable with things. All the devs want is the iron slug to be exactly what they want so they can leave it and be happy knowing that it is their vision of an iron slug. So they can't "just buff it", they have to re-imagine it.

Kind of like when we said "A 5* shard bomb would be cool." a loonnngggg time ago, and then the devs a year or so later "fixed it" to their image of what it should do. People complained because the shard bomb was like, THE offensive damage bomb in lockdown. No one could resist it right without sacrificing precious weapon buffing armor, and it had a good attack pattern that threw people off when used correctly etcetera.

The bottom line is that balance isn't all that important in Spiral Knights. Its important to where we shouldn't have plate armor, but not important enough to make gran faust's charge be worth it compared to acheron's, or for the devs to make it so voltedge can compete with combuster in terms of damage/utility. But I wrote about this and like 3 people read it, so I can go f... procreate.... with.... myself.
