A rant about the new heat system

Ok, I'm getting really annoyed by how heat and the forge works in this new update.

First of all, making us use fire crystals to level up is completely unnecessary and makes me feel like the game has gone back to its old pay-to-progress ways. Now I know you can find crystals in the clockworks, and that somewhat helps make this less of a problem, but then comes how many crystals you need to level up a piece of equipment. The minimum amount of fire crystals required to level up something is 20, and that is only to get a mere 20% chance of leveling up that certain piece of equipment. This basically means 1 crystal = 1% chance of leveling up. This means you're going to need hundreds of crystals just to level up a helm, armor, shield and two weapons once. That is beyond cruel.

Not only that, but fire crystals cost a lot of Crystal Energy to buy and otherwise only come in threes in the clockworks (and rarely do so), meaning you're forced to either spend hours trying to upgrade one piece of gear or forking out way too much money to do the same thing. I thought Spiral Knights had improved completely in this update, but I am sad to say I was wrong.

So please Three Rings, either make fire crystals cheaper, limit their use to boosting heat gain or levels, or remove the forge entirely. Thank you.

What old pay to progress

What old pay to progress method was this?

Also, you need to complain about free elevators if you're going to complain about all that as well.

TL:DR He's angry about the percentages of leveling up with fire crystals and how much CE they cost and their droprates.

Now, you don't need 100 crystals to get a 100% chance. It only starts to get like that when the item gets close to level 10 which is pretty understandable.
I'd recommend going to the arcade and playing on something higher than easy. I can guarantee that you'll at least find a few.

You've entered into a financial and intellectual hell of your own making, and now you must live in it.

Cause I totally don't earn about 20 fire crystals every time I go down the clock works.... Its a new idea, I didn't like it at first, but its grown on me. Its gotten me off my fat lazy butt playing LD all day long, and convinced me that going down and actually making progress is good. Anything that can make me un-lazy is a very good thing.

to me, crystal cost in the supply depot is a bit too high. even I don't want to pay 700 ce for 50 sparks. and it's not that I don't find them, it's that leveling a DVS to ten, a supernova to 7 and a sentenza to 5 left me with no crystals. at all. in this way I should feel something that says me to buy them, but the cost is too high.

It's Fine.

I've been running just the 5th stratum (elite mode) in search of Shining Fire Crystals, and generally get about 20-50 per run. If you find an Arena, Danger Room, or Treasure Vault, it'll definitely be on the high side of that. This takes a half hour, but can be rushed through in 10 minutes if you just go for the boxes and ignore the enemies.

I really don't see the problem here. Get yo'lazy butts out of FSC.

I dislike grinding constantly for Fire crystals too, but it's given the Arcade a use again, so how bad can this update be?

To those of you who say I'm lazy...

I've been constantly doing missions, and I have only found lower level crystals that I have no use for, so don't go assuming people are lazy just because the complain about CE prices.

EDIT: To the person asking what the old pay-to-progress method was, I was talking about how you needed energy to alchemize items and how limited the amount of elevator trips you could take a day were.

The way you phrased it makes

The way you phrased it makes it seem like that there was the old pay to play way, then a "current" way of playing, then the new change that ruined the "current" way of playing effectively pushing it back into the dark old days of somesuch.

@Theopholis Thanks for saying

@Theopholis

Thanks for saying that, every discussion on this that I've found has always included somewhere that the person is grinding FSC.

I've been playing since before the steam update and I can tell you for a fact, the only reason people ran FSC was for the challenge, Heat, crowns and seals. Not a single player went in there because of the dearth of treasure boxes(because there aren't that many, comparitively).

@Axelslicer

I think I've found your problem, you're doing MISSIONS. Go into the Clockworks proper on one of the higher difficulty settings. Before I moved up the stratums, I was never afraid of not having enough crystals. Now I need to restrict myself to not get higher ones than I currently need.
