Is it against the rules to modify the game's music/sound files? Vanilla is getting a bit old.
I have read the ToS, but I'm still on the fence about it.
Game modification?
There's no place for doubts when you read this:
6. Restrictions. You agree not to do any of the following prohibited
actions:
1. reproduce, distribute, publicly display or perform, translate, modify,
adapt, create derivative works from, deconstruct, reverse engineer,
decompile or disassemble in any manner Spiral Knights or any portion
thereof, including but not limited to any character, graphic, associated
software or proprietary communications protocol used by the software
or any utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived therefrom;
I would read the ToS for more details, but I think as long as it does not give you any advantges its ok. I heard that people played around with games files and got armour that is not obtainable (But only they can see it).
The fact is that developers would have no way to know you're doing it.... until you start a public thread about it.
*rolls eyes*
Wasn't there a thread a long time ago, complete with pictures, of a guy who modded vana to be a huge kozma?
How would you even modify the game files for personal advantage? A lot of scripting takes place in the server.

Server-client message interception. That's a pretty deep subject, not to mention completely forbidden by the ToS.
EDIT: Never mind this comment. I misread your question.
Why not just have some form of music program running in the background and turn off all the game music? It could spice things up without violating TOS.
I'd maybe alter vanilla music but I'm like meh I'll just pop WinAmp open and stuff. Despite how good Harry McMack or what his name is, it should be understandable that I'm pretty tired of the soundtrack after 1650 hours. Lucky Knight is the exception, of course <3
As long as it's for your own use, it's okay.
