A Few Questions

Hey I just started Spiral Knights a couple of days ago and I have a few questions to ask.

1. In forge, the 4x and 6x options offer the same possible upgrades, does the 6x make them more likely to happen?

2. Why is my frost gun terrible compared to swords? I want to become a gunner; do guns eventually get better to the point where swords and guns are about the same?

3. What exactly are the colored crystals mined and carried on your back for? I know that they are used to create arcade levels or something but how does that work?

4. How do you get higher-star equipment?

5. What exactly are the benefits of redoing levels? I see way higher levels sometimes in my missions and I'm only a squire.

6. How do I tell what materials monsters drop or where I can find monsters to kill to get those materials for alchemy?

Any questions that are answered is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

1. Yesh.
2. Guns and Swords utilize different tactics. Using correct upgrades and perks, guns can become better than swords. Frost gun is indeed terrible, but you will learn to use better guns.
3. At first they were used for building clockworks level, now they can be used to make sprite food.
4. Crafting/Auction House
5. For now, crowns and loot. Higher levels have more crowns and better loot.
6. Going to deeper levels grants a higher chance of better loot. Loot is determined by the monster family and type.

I suggest looking into the wiki

1. There's a big percentage indicator somewhere. You can't miss it.

2. Guns have range. They do get better later on, but obviously a sword can outdamage them against close single targets (at the risk of getting killed easier). It's for the sake of balance, no one would dare to use a sword if a gun was stronger and safer.

4. Buy it

5. For the sake of it. Isn't it cool that you can go back and practice old levels? If your current mission is too hard or you're bored, this opens up more options.
