what is the point of heat?

Is there a point to heat anymore? AFAIK, it's only good for two things.

1) Sprites. They're listed on the screen between levels, but I'm not seeing any actual improvement. There might be a single pixel worth of growth that I see only in FSC, but I even doubt that.

2) Leveling weapons. With fire crystals used for forging, it takes me way longer to get the crystals I need than to heat a weapon. Heat is just redundant. Sure, you can buy crystals with CE, but where are you going to get the crowns for it? Running the clockworks, which can effectively heat the weapon. Sure, without heat, people could spend money for the CE to just level a weapon, but it would take a lot of money for people willing to spend it. And, if they did, that would be good for OOO as the more money they make off that then the less money they need to make by doing other BS things to ruin the fun of the game.

So, does heat have a purpose anymore?

I can only rate this because

I can only rate this because I can't seem to come up with anything to say.

automatic 20 for negativity against the Forge (well done!)
10 for pointing out the abysmal heat leveling with sprites (which is an issue)
30 for a good point

60/100

1. I have fed my sprite to just about a pinky's width amount of heat left, and running advanced FSC I have maxed out a Sprite's heat bar. Thrice.

2. I would say it encourages playing the clockworks somewhat as almost every other depth there is an Arsenal station for you to forge, whereas grinding places like FSC, should you max out the heat, you either continue on wasting heat or restart over to level up your item and play again. It's a win-lose situation of sorts, but I would say it is not such a bad system. Then again, I'm speaking as a full fledged player- I do not know the woes of the newer players.

I suppose in a way, yes, your suggestion has a point - But that doesn't mean heat is entirely useless. In a way, it also helps deter people who just want to buy their way to end game- you actually have to play the game, acquire heat to level up your gear. It takes effort, but it's better than buying your way to being fully fledged and equipped then complaining there's nothing else to do, in my opinion.
