Hey all, I'm a new recruit, so to speak. I'm a little confused about the whole gates and levels system in Spiral Knights. Is it at all possible to choose which levels you actually go to? It seems to just be random whenever I go into a gate. It doesnt really bother me, except sometimes I want to get particular items and the icons on the gates dont seem to match those on the underground map. Ive looked through the wiki, and there isnt really anything explaining exactly how the levels work, was hoping some intelligent knight could explain it to me? Thanks in advance!
Probably a stupid question

The levels are all mounted on
The levels are all mounted on a big series of rotating cogs. That's why they're called the Clockworks.
Every 5-10 minutes, the stages on the next floor will move in the direction of the arrows-- that's the rotation of the Clockworks.
With enough patience (and occasionally making your knight move or speak so you don't idle yourself offline), you can pick and choose your path. Arena stages are particularly wothwhile if you can handle them.
Sometimes, the line representing your path will ALSO move, though. I don't know all the details on how this works.
The actual gate setup will change every so often in some floors, if you see arrows beside the map icons, that means the floor for that depth is constantly rotating between the available floor, this happens as your diving deeper too, so you can wait beside the elevator before the floor and wait for it to change to the area you wish to travel to.
