This might have been asked in the past but I couldn't find it. I recently got back in SK and was wondering if the Elite difficulty gives more than the normal. Or is it jsut there for hardcore players?

Yes, as Aryll said, the rewards are greater on Elite. There are efforts underway to measure how much more you get. So far, it looks like maybe 40%-50% more crowns on Elite compared to Normal.
It says when you hover over the difficulty that heat, crowns, loot, and chance for rarities is increased.
