So, I decided to do solo from depth 18 (subtown) to the terminal on Tier 3. I don't know if it was because of the gate or because I locked the party to solo mode only, but on that run, I only got around 9 Shinning crystals. When I do party runs, when I have the party open to all/when I have a full party, I get around 30 or more crystals. Anyone want to challenge this theory? To see if playing on solo or playing in a party determines the drop rate of crystals? It was on elite mode, too. This was from arcade, not from missions.

Playing on elite will reward

Playing on elite will reward you with more crystals. I am unsure if more people effects this. The type of fire crystal depends on the stratum.
Stratums 1,2,3,4, 5, and 6.
Cracked will be found in stratum 1.
Dim in 2, Warm in 3, Glowing in 4, Shining 5 and Radiant will be found in Stratum 6.

Quick stratum guide so I don't need to explain anything: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Stratum

EDIT: Whoops, sorry, quick fixing.

Please keep collecting data. It's possible that the variation you're seeing is due to random noise. More data would reduce the uncertainty.

I pretty consistently get

I pretty consistently get around 30+ radiant fire crystals soloing T3 from start to finish (dunno about shining cause they appear further down on the list and I don't really look it over). 15-20 radiants from a generic mission (don't got anything on danger missions cause I can't do all of those on elite yet).

I've been thinking of keeping track of how many crystals I do per run for a couple of days though, I'll do that if it'll help your data.

Oh, a data collection thread.

Oh, a data collection thread. I loved doing these to help fill out damage and UV resistance effects on my own time, at least this gives me an excuse to do some random tier 3 solos again.

Bopp you must have been a statistics teacher in a previous life. And advanced usually nets me around 15 radiants, so 30 for elite sounds about right. Of course, like bopp said, more runs are needed to confirm this.

I did another solo run, a different gate this time. I got 6 shinning crystals and 6 radiant crystals.

Note: Also, I forgot to mention I got around 9 radiant crystals on my first solo run, too.

Also, did you notice that boxes drop 3 crystals? Like, if it's just me, and I pop a box open, 3 crystals will drop. When I'm in a party, let's say 3 people (including myself, a party of 3) and we open up boxes, we'd get a total of 9 crystals dropping on that depth. Oh, I opened energy gates on my second run, which is why I got 9 crystals rather than 6, I think...

Could the drop rate be fixed like this? Mmmm....

Basically I would get 3 crystals per depth on solo, and 12 crystals if I'm in a full party.

Hmmm.

For 100 energy, you can pop 33 energy gates with 1 CE left over. The energy gates will yield treasure blocks, which have chances to drop Fire Crystals- depending on your luck, this may be more than the amount of crystals you could buy for that price! Food for thought. Always be sure to pop boxes before opening gates if you can, though; this is a good way to see if it's worth opening a gate.

This actually provides a reason to party; in addition to having more firepower for a Danger Room (very useful in rooms like Fiend Swarm and that one with crystals and Lichens), you can split the cost of energy gates among party members, for the benefit of the entire group. In a way, it's like Shadow Keys.

Danger Rooms, of course, are always worth it if you can survive them. Danger MISSIONS are probably incredible for getting Fire Crystals due to that huge room of goodies at the end- if you can survive, that is!

...okay, maybe the previous post was just me rambling.

That said, I have some numbers. Did an Elite run from 23-28 in a full party. Did two danger rooms. I forget the others' pickups, but I got 60 Radiant Fire Crystals and two Sparks of Life. No Orbs, though.

Earlier, I also did elite In Cold Blood, and picked up 18 Shining Fire Crystals as well as 3 Radiant Fire Crystals. That one's good for 4*- if you hate to grind (like me) you can still play it once in a while and enjoy it, because of the nice variety of enemies (beasts, ice slimes, and then a Chromalisk variety show).

I did a T3 run on advanced

I did a T3 run on advanced last night and only got 3 or 4 shining crystals, but nearly 40 radiants. Opened any energy gate I encountered, and did an arena in stratum 6 it was the gate full of fiend themed things (with sinful steps, ect)

So playing on elite or advanced doesn't really seem to effect how many radiants I get on average.... I'll uh start righting down my numbers so I'll stop spitting out imprecise numbers.

1. Drops are random
2. Arcade itself is random

The best way to test this is trying everyone's favourite, FSC. Maybe OCH. All the other bosses are too short.

my 2 cents

RNG is RNG...

derp?

To collect data and to provide factual proof require more than two or ten runs, you need a whole bunch and some from other people as your luck may be scewed.

Having 4 people running EFSC, you can range from 33 to 60 radiant fire crystal. And I can tell you playing solo or duo doesn't affect the drop.

if it was the case my friend would've never drop 66 radiant fire crystal in EFSC while we were 2.

Also getting 40+ shining and 15 radiant on a T3 run avrg.. can be 20-ish radiant.

I have over 500 Radiant, same with Shinning. And I lvl 1 thing and I feel like my data field is too small to even be accurate. How can people say "I run this once and the pay-out avrg is not good enough"

go do them a lot more please before claiming RNG is broken, RNG does RNG

Collect ALL the Data!

Right now it appears to be quite random with numbers of crystals. As Shamanala says, we probably need more data to even start thinking we have a decent idea on how the crystal drop rate works. It could also be that some people are giving imprecise numbers. Still, we need some way to organize the data.

That's the point of this

That's the point of this thread, the OP wants to collect data from lots of people.

Edit: It is worth noting that data collection will only work if people make sure to consistently report all their data, my boyfriend pointed out that having people come in and just drop in exceptional things but that's it will bias the overall data you've collected, so it may be a good idea to emphasis that you only want people to give you data if they can do it consistently and not because it is exceptionally bad or good. (although I think somebody already said this earlier on with not as many words...)

Now that I think about it, it's probably best to count the exact number of treasure blocks broken compared to Fire Crystals dropped, as well as their color (Red Treasure Blocks are rarer and may contain more valuable loot).

you had better get a reaserch team running steadly, either with friends or with guild, so that data collected is propely stored and crunched.

.

Really all they have to do is create a spread sheet coded to crunch that data, which is a fairly simple thing (for people that know how to anyway).

I suppose one end result could be the average amount of crystals found per strata/floor/box color. The he numbers will likely always be lower on the odd numbered strata though just because of how loot ramps up.

the difficulty

The difficulty isn't in the computation, but in collecting good data that you can be confident of. You need to make sure that all of your data collectors are collecting correctly and thoroughly, to avoid the kinds of problems mentioned in post #14 above.

For example, if you look at the Lancer Knightz data project, you see that they spell out their testing procedures in detail. And, for data with some subjectivity to them (e.g. sword combos per minute), they keep track of which player contributed the data. This is the kind of diligent care you need, to get reliable data.

I did today's prestige

I did today's prestige mission, Assault on Machine Shop 13 on solo. I got 12 radiant fire crystals for that expedition.

Can someone do Assault on Machine Shop 13 in a full party (4 people) and tell us how many crystals they got?

I also did the danger mission Compound 42, it was a full party of 4. I got 53 radiant fire crystals. We started from the lobby.

Can someone also do Compound 42 on solo and tell us how many crystals they got, too?

I believe that all of the depths are the same for missions, or at least for prestige missions. We'll make an estimation of the drops, since for Compound 42, I got 53 crystals, while my party got around 41 and 52.

Depth 19 - depth 23

Depth 19 - depth 23 (terminal). I got 27 shinning crystals, I was in a party, full party of 4 of people. (people kept leaving and coming in; 3 or 4 party members, juggling per depth)

Pretty much, I won't go more into researching this, various reasons are because of laziness.

Conclusion: If you want to get the most heat and heat crystals, I recommend for you to do party runs. The more people in your party, the more heat and crystals you will get. That pretty much sums up everything. A guildmate of mine said something about sharing, so eh, sharing is caring! We all share heat and crystals together in a party and that is why we get more of it compared to solo mode??

You get more of the heat resource itself in a party.

Shining fire crystal amounts

Shining fire crystal amounts vary by gate, not party size

One gate could have arenas and nrmal levels with dangerbrooms, wwhich give you about 15-20 shinieys per room.

Another gate nayvhave fiend and wolver levels.

It is the gate that matters, not party size.

I'm about to do that same get

I'm about to do that same gate that I got 27 crystals from the party, but this time it will be in solo mode. I doubt I'll get the same depth levels, but let's just see how many drops I'll get. Plus, I'm starting from the subtown, so that's one depth more than I did in the party run. I didn't do arenas in the party run, so I'll avoid those in solo mode.

Good luck dude. Try to aim

Good luck dude. Try to aim for gates with arenas and the levels witg the gear icon on the elevator that arent decon zones. Those have the best cchance of getting a danger room, which gives anywhere from 6-24 shiniyes on average.

Okay, I may have been wrong

Okay, I may have been wrong guys. I did the same gate on solo and scored 22 shining crystals. Soooo..... so yeah, I'm stumped.. I did bishop gate Tier 3. But I do think that parties bring out more heat and crystals. So you guys are right about the depths and the scenarios. I'm guess those do pretty much determine the crystal payout. It's about the number of boxes; red boxes.
