A quick suggestion for the new rarity system

I just started playing again after the removal of the energy system (like many of you, I'm sure), and while I like the new rarity system, it seems like it's a bit unpolished. I was at 3-4* gear before the update hit, and thus I have a bunch of 1-2* crystals and orbs that I have no use for. I can't sell them, so they're just sitting in my inventory.

My proposal is this: A system should be added where you can craft lower-tier rarities into high-tier ones. For example, you can use 3 1* orbs + 100 crowns (or maybe even energy or mats, I dunno) to craft one 2* orb. This continues upward with increasing costs of crowns or mats, but the orb cost is consistent. The same would be true for fire crystals, with maybe an increase in the cost (5 for 1 or something) because they're so common. I think that this would solve a lot of the complaints with the current system, and it would allow people to play with lower tier friends and do boss runs while still having some benefit for themselves.

What do you guys think?

Do you have every weapon and armor in the game? That's the point of low level crystals and orbs.
